Near-perfect day for an air rifle match: overcast, 0-4 MPH winds, upper 60's. Unfortunately I couldn't capitalize on the great conditions to get some great scores. I haven't shot in three weeks and my performance shows it. I was happy about getting the 10 Pigs on the third round though.

Next weekend is the Chicken Coop shoot so I'll have scores to post after I get back.

WEATHER: Low 40's, cloudy, wind @ maybe 3 mph

8" of melting snow made footing pretty slippery. I managed somehow and am really happy with my turkey score.

Finally getting over here to report my scores from the Chicken Coop shoot.

The Fates were working against me this particular weekend. Someone "helped" by bringing in my range bag from the truck to the cabin Friday night, so when I got to the range Saturday morning my range bag was nowhere to be found. Luckily I was able to borrow pellets from two other people but I didn't have my shooting vest, glasses/blinder, or anything else I would usually have with me. Needless to say I was frazzled for the start of the match and struggled to do my best with the abnormal circumstances.

Match #1, Regional match, NRA Air Rifle resettables, yards
Date: February 10th and 11th, 2018

All matches were 60-shots so I've added a down-converted score in parentheses after for those of us that usually shoot 40-shot matches

Round #1, Target:
Class: AAA
Anschutz 2002 SuperAir
JSB Diablo Exact RS (7.33) pellets
Weaver T-24

Chickens - 10
Pigs - 9
Turkeys - 7
Rams - 7
TOTAL - 33/60 (22/40)

Round #2, Open:
Class: AAA
Air Arms TX200 Mk-III
Weaver V-24 @ 24X
JSB Diablo Heavy (10.34) pellets

Chickens - 12
Pigs - 11
Turkeys - 8
Rams - 13
TOTAL - 44/60 (29.3/40)

Round #3, Sporter:

Class: Master
TX200 again.

Chickens - 12
Pigs - 14
Turkeys - 7
Rams - 12
TOTAL - 45/60 (30/40)

Sunday's Sporter match started out great... 12 Rams, 12 Chickens, then 14 Pigs. I felt really stable and totally in tune with the TX200. When I stepped up to shoot the Turkeys someone shot next to me with a really loud rifle and it blew my concentration. Ugh, oh well.

Regardless of my issues the match was really well run and I look forward to going again next year.

Pretty good shootin' there, Allen. A couple of very impressive scores. Shooting a 30 is great!!

I am curious, what lb. (or oz's) are your triggers on these guns?

The Anschutz Target rifle is two-stage and super light, maybe 4-6 oz. total. The TX200 is also two-stage but a little heavier, first stage is probably around 4 oz, second stage closer to 8 or 10 oz.

For whatever reason I can shoot the TX better than the Target rifle and I can't figure out why. They're both almost the same weight (around 10-11 pounds) but the Anschutz is more ergonomic and has a better/lighter trigger. It may be because the TX is front-heavy, just not sure.

Practice, NRA steel swinger, meters
Date: 2-18-18
Anschutz 1710
Leupold Vari-X III / Premier boosted scope @ ~24X
SK Standard Plus

Match #1
Chickens - 7
Pigs - 8
Turkeys - 5
Rams - 5
TOTAL - 25

Match #2
Chickens - 5
Pigs - 7
Turkeys - 5
Rams - 2
TOTAL - 19

I shot these after a couple of the 50-yard targets. I was fiddling with some trigger hand placements on the second round and it cost me some points goofing around like that, especially on the Rams.

I have an out-of-town wedding next weekend so no more scores for me this month.

Now I understand why your airgun scores are so much better than your rimfire scores.

A heavy gun, with triggers in the oz.'s .....recipe for success.
