GSonnen If my son said he logged one in he did. You don't mess with or make misstakes. On your log book the ATF love those mistakes. If the box was in the shippment and was labeled wrong they would seen that to.
2 years ago, i was lucky enough to see and TOUCH, HANDLE, FONDLE a Ruger 10/17 in the Ruger booth at the SHOT SHOW 2004.
at the time, i did not think that it was such a big deal, thinking that "it's only a 10/22 magnum fitted with a 17HMR barrel. i was also asking myself if i would end up buying one to add to my collection. was not sure 'cause i felt that the integrated scope mounts on the receiver made the rifle look ugly.
i'm sure that ruger made a small run/batch of these rifles and probably sent a couple out to a few distributors. they probably either discovered some "critical" issue with the configuration and asked for the rifles back soon after.
Today I was at the LAX Range in Inglewood, CA. By good fortune, I read the 2006 Ruger catalog. It has the Ruger 10/22 .22 WINCHESTER MAGNUM RIFLE as being produced. Obviously, I was overjoyed. Then, I realized that it was a misprint (sigh).
Someone at Ruger fouled up and had the marketing department put out a brochure that the rifle was in production.
I couldn't imagine Ruger advertising it was producing a product that no longer exists!:shakehead
According to the Ruger rep, 10/22 WMR should be shipping in Nov/Dec of 06 and has been redesigned. I would assume this is a precursor to manufacturing the 10/17. The 10/17 still wont appear anytime soon, though. Some kinks still need to be worked out. I wouldnt put too much faith in that estimated release date. They have been known to push things back for quite a long time. To Ruger's credit, they wont release a product unless they know it will work and work correctly. Case in point - the Ruger Gold Label Side By Side shotgun. They have been advertising this gun for years and even spent a trainload of money on fancy tv ads. The gun didnt work right. They thought they fixed it. Nope. They should have it finally ready soon, though, and hopefully the 10/22 WMR and 10/17 shortly thereafter.

Good update B.L. Just a note on the Gold Label: It was in the catalog, SHOT show & Gun mags in 2002. It showed up in stores (in very small numbers) in 2006.
I have talked to Ruger 3 times about my 10/22 magnum that is in for repairs and had about that many different answers. I have been told the 10/22 magnum is no more and they would give me a 77 instead. I have also be told my rifle is being replaced free of charge. My guess is that the answers are changing because there is new designs/rifles in the works. The consistant answer has been no charge so that makes me happy. Still waiting on my letter for the real story. It will be worth the wait to be the first kid on the block with a newly designed 10/22M. All the reps can tell me is what the computer in front of them says about the status of my rifle. Yesterday I was told the letter is in the mail. All I have to do is sign it and return it too them. It should be here today or tommorow.
It's probably the same letter I signed when my Long rifle got replaced. It basically just stated that I acknowledged I was get the reciever replaced, but let us know.
At the Shot Show I was told they were working on the 10/22 Magnum. Teh problem they were having is when they were converted to .17HMR so from a liability standpoint they stopped production until they had them shooting both .22 mag and .17HMR without breakage. Remember, Bill Ruger hated being sued so he was always looking ahead. Ruger was the first one to include locks for their cases and the 1 st switch over to gun locks before it was negotiated for manufacturers to voluntairily do so. I think Ruger knows it is to big a market to ignore so I bet we will see them out at some point.
"We wish to advise that we are willing to replace this firearm with a new 77/22 (of your choice) of current manufacture, on a no charge basis. Please note that the 10/22 RBM is no longer in production. " ect.....
I called to ask which rifles this included and was told I could choose any 77 of any caliber. They told me they are working on the 10/22 magnum design and do not have any time frame for the release date if any. I will not push my luck and ask for a 77 magnum. I would not have any use for it anyway.
I just looked over the website and found a great deal of rifles to choose from. It would be easier to list what I do not want. I have a Rem 700 in 30-06 so I do not want a 30-06, .308 or 300 Win mag. The target grey rifles at almost 10 lbs seem a bit much for a hunting rifle. This will be a hunting rifle.
Here are a few that interest me
International in .270
Target grey frontier in .243 or 7mm-08
Standard in .204, .220 swift or 22-250
Ultralight in .270
77/22 Hornet Varmint
77/17 Varmint
I also wish they made the frontier in .270 or the Ultra light in 22-250. Maybe the barrels are not long enough for those calibers. This is going to be a tough choice. Any input (good or bad) on my choices would be welcomed

Doesn't really matter if you think about it. Anything you pick will have cost more then the .22mag so you can always sell it. If youw ant a .17HMR go for he 77/17 VMBBZ. Mine it a real shooter. If you want a carry rifle for hunting then go with a calibur you want. A 17 Hornet is great for meduim range varmints but if you don't reload then it will be expensive. If you want to do varmints then the 77 VTs in .223 or 22-250 are great shootes too. YOu will need a bench to shoot off of since with a scope it will be about 12lbs. Best thing I can say is take something you can sell easy and save the money for a NEW 10/17 or .22mag.
Oh, and the Forntier models make look cool but you are limited on scopes because you have to mount them so far forward. They don't really save you anything uless you hunting at very short distances.
You seem to be a fan (as am I) of the .270. Ruger did in fact make a very few of their Magnum Express models in caliber .270. CDNN has them available, as shown on page 31 of their 2006-3 catalog. . You might ask Ruger for one of those....aren't they still a 77?
so whats really the final word on Ruger 10/22 magnum? is it really discontinued? what about their .22 magnum magazines? is it avaible @ ruger factory? .......or should i get rid of my magnum so that spare magzines will no longer be a problem to me:shakehead ...i only have 1 pc, of magazine right niw
If I am not confused by the 77 designation, would the rifle known as the Frontier with the forward scope mount qualify as a replacement. If so, you might consider going with it.
10/22 mag. discontinued ?922m dicontinued whats left in semi.,only the remington and the vq?Well i just got my 10/22 mag. working great and im happy.:t
This is an interesting thread. I wonder if any of you chaps @in the know@ know what Ruger are doing with their international customers? There are quite a few 10/22 magnums floating around New Zealand and a lot see a lot of hard use- I wonder if the Ruger agent will replace them?
