Maggit here too, Hummer is just sittin in the gun case collecting dust (since the coyote killers came out). I bought a new CZ452 Varmint this weekend just waiting on a scope deal to go through.
Boy this new CZ makes my marling look like a toy, I love it already and I haven't even shot it yet.
10-4 on that comment about the range. I got covered by the muzzle of a loaded Mosin the last time I was there. Which as I'm sure you can imagine will be the last I am there whenever there is anyone else there. I'm lucky enough to do most of my shooting in the back yard, I'm set up for 50 and 100 yards but would need a real bench, not a picnic table if I ever wanted to get very serious... . But for what I do, which is mostly zero or checking zero on hunting rifles, and occasionally shooting the heck out of a pistol or two, what I have seems to work pretty good.
Maybe we'll meet some day. In the meantime, make me a maggit, ok?
Yep, and what I've been told about the feral hogs is that the .44 Mag will knock them down for sure but, depending on where you hit them, they may get back up, mader'n you know what. And I don't want to knock a couple of big ones down, have them get back up mad, decide to come at me, and me be trying to change magazines.
Hence the 94 which, with its full up dozen rounds, will go quite a ways with only racking the lever and, although I'm no John Wayne, I can do that pretty darn quickly.
Plus I will admit I just like having that Winnie in my safe.
But I say, to each his own. If you like the Ruger, it's the one for you to have!
Yeah...headshots only on rabbits. I'll wait for a looong time to get the right shot. Real world accuracy only here...read all you want about the hummer, I'll take my 22mag. A buddy of mine owns the hummer and the 17M2, they are amazingly accurate rounds but down range my 22 mag shines on impact. Now I have heard rumors of a 20cal rimfire, that would be neat....
Hey SKI...I'm thinking about going back to AK for good this summer. And the only reason the rifle has a VQ extractor on it is cuz I wore out the original factory. Changing to a VQ extractor should be mandatory...it makes a great difference if'n ya shoot allot.
I order my 22 mag ammo a minimum of 500 rounds at a time and usually order 1000 rounds to offset shipping. In the years I've owned this rifle I've shot over 50K rounds through it..how much do you guys shoot?
If these aren't too gruesome, here's a few more...
This bunny was shot through the back of the head but the round took off the front end...
This **** was rabid, I'd never shoot one otherwise, it was doing the drunken **** dance...
This is an early pic of my magnum (it still has the old Weaver 4-12AO on it)...
Oh...the **** was handled carefully and was burned on a bonfire afterwards...although I did inhale the smoke and have been seen staggering around at night yelling "BRAINS!". And I do drool allot since then...
Well, I guess I'm a closet maggit. My firs gun purchase was a Marlin 983T, because the HMR boys were saying that the Mag was obsolete. Well, I'm just the kind to take on a challenge like that. I've since bought the other three calibers, and I'm shooting a lot of LR to get my skills up, I still cant shoot well at all.
I fit your definition of a 22 WMR nut - I started with a HK 300 22Mag autoloader years back. I'm playing around with the Ruger right now but I'll probably end up with a VQ one day.
1 - maxi mag

10 - Old Rem HP
Stopped by Plainfield Shooter Supply, west of Indy, this morning. I was surprised to see that they had a used 10/22 maaaagnum. Haven't seen one for a while. It had a Pronghorn (???) scope and was marked $349. Guy said he'd take $320. I was sorely tempted but fought it off. Maybe buying 4 boxes of Win WMR ammo will help hold my status as a maggitt.
If you're near Indy and looking, there it is. Maybe I shoulda' made a counter-offer. Dangit!
I have the Ruger 10/22 in .22WMR and love to shoot it. I did go the Volquartsen trigger drop-in and that brought the little beauty way up on my Favorites List'! As for the hunt, I have only bagged woodchuck, hedgehog, whistlepigs..
I also have a as-new S&W Mod 51 kit gun in that caliber.. another beauty.
Nope! Never shot an "itty-bitty bullet" and never will.
It's even going on my headstone.
Spotshooter,
The Volq (IMHO) is the way to go. Ya can replace every part on the Ruger and it will still never match an out of box Volq. (IF you're into that super accuracy stuff.) A CNC machined SS receiver plus the threaded barrel makes all the difference.
I got the DeLuxe model. Fluted/comped barrel and McMillan thumbhole stock. The fore end bottom is completely flat and rides the bag real sweet.
The Ruger will still be an impressive shooter, tho.
There are still alot of original single extractor 10/22 MAAGGNNUUMMs out there. Usually in pawnshops. ALOT of people got po'd when they encountered all that jamming problems with it.
It took very little to solve the problems. A Volq. extractor....WeaponsKraft bolt stop pin.....Fix that awful bolt headspacing.....
I have shot a lot of itty bitty bullets. More of them than I have maaagnum bullets, actually. However, I have 3 of those maaagnums that all shoot pretty well. Two of them made the trip to the range this morning, a Marlin and a CZ. The 10/22 maaagnum is pretty much a known quantity and, since I was testing new loads and new guns, it stayed home. If you can bring yourself to read about itty bitty bullets, check my post in the 17 HMR section and you'll see what outshot what today. BTW, Winchester FMJ is a lot like shooting a shotgun if you're curious like I was.
Is this the real Ski or some imposter? Prove your self. What is your favorite si-fi flick? What brand of ammo did you spend $25 a box for. A wrong answer will cause your ponytail to fall off.
Not many of the original group left it seems. Good to see you are still kicking.
