I would not even consider giving it back to Ruger. If you have a single extractor model you have nothing to worry about. If you have a double extractor model you have nothing to worry about unless it breaks and as far as I know that is very rare. They will shoot and function great. It might take a bit of tunning but there are many here that would be happy to help walk you through it.
You are correct. Also the 2004 Ruger catalog had a picture of one and model number. There was even an ad in Guns & Ammo. Unfortunately, the rifle never made it to market. It was right after the announcement and "failure to produce" the "10/17" that rumors started to fly of the demise of the 10/22M. Unfortunately again, those rumors have become reality.
