Ruger 77/17 Price?

I came across a Ruger 77/17 on a local auction, did some research on G.B. and Wow. I didn't realise they went up that much ($800 to $1000). Is this real world pricing ?

Yup.

Ruger hasn't done a run of 77 based rifles in a while. Not much else has a flush fit magazine and real metal for a dbm. While many gripe about the 77s accuracy a cursory search of the online listing sites show they remain rather popular.

We have a plethora of 3 to 500 dollar plastic fantastic products. Then the vudoo/rimx class but the mid tier range is predominantly occupied by now discontinued ruger 77s and cz452s. Fingers crossed bergara can bring to market a genuine I'd tier option.

The interesting thing about a 77/17 , is that , on the early ones with the slip fit barrel, they can become 22/ WMRs, pretty easily, ala CZ 455 ez. Stainless wmr, blue 17 hmr.

When you say 77/17 , are you referring to the hmr, or the wsm?

Cool

"The interesting thing about a 77/17 , is that , on the early ones with the slip fit barrel, they can become 22/ WMRs"........interesting. it is the earlier version with the '10/22' clamp and I do have a couple of .22 target barrels & a .22 wmr reamer. I did get to shoot a couple of groups........and I have work to do

Should have waited to sell mine. A stroy: I had a 77/17HMR with sport barrel and walnut stock. Nice looking gun and had the heft of a good rifle. At that time, it was the best offering in 17HMR to be had. At least that was my opinion at the time. It was accurate enough, but not stellar. On a prairie dog hunt I learned it is devastating on hapless dogs. I was hooked on the 17HMR. But, some problems with consistent accuracy emerged as my p-dog hunt continued. I returned to the range believing that I had a scope problem. I learned it was the thin sport barrel heating up that was the problem. Groups at 50 yds would expand to 3".
So, I tried to sell it without success. Consigned to a busy shop, it sat for months. I finally sold it to Cabela's for a fraction of it's supposed value and glad to be rid of it. So, it is a great surprise to me that they sell for big money these days.
Since then, I've owned 4 other 17HMRs, a Sako FinnFire II and three Anschutz. All have been far superior to the the Ruger 77/17 I had. I sold the Sako because it had function problems I couldn't live with. I sold it for about what I paid so it was an inexpensive lesson. For my Annies ( two 1517MPRs and one 1517 D Classic) I have paid $600 used, $706 new and $700 barely used. I share this story to emphasize there is no need to pay a ton of money for a mediocre rifle. My Annies are all wicked accurate.

Oh and BTW, I've ordered a Bergara B-14R 17HMR 4 months ago and still waiting on it's delivery. It too will be much better than the Ruger. Ayt least hat is my prediction based on my Ruger experience and my Bergara BXR quality. The B-14R will be more expensive than the BMR which will sell for <$600, but I wanted the heavier target model.

"they can become 22/ WMRs"......... so they can. I repurposed a H&R m-12 barrel. I even left an 'Anschutz' bulb on the outboard end. I'll have to wait for calmer weather for an accuracy test but function is fine.
