Can a Majestic Bolt Release work on a MkII?

My 22/45 Mk II is crying out for this part but the maker assures me it won’t work, but can’t tell me why since Dino the Ruger Master Wizard passed in December. Nobody there actually knows why it doesn’t work on these pistols. I am sure somebody here does

I milled the sides off the grip many years ago, long before Ruger came out with the Mk III, so I am unafraid of trimming, cutting, threading, whatever to make it work. I would like a little info about why it does not just drop in...

The first and third pics are from Majestic, the middle one is my pistol. I actually don’t care if the Auto Bolt Release feature doesn’t work, I assume that is the post sticking up toward the bolt. I can cut that off if required.

Thanks,

I'd say give it a try.... I don't see anything that would inhibit its use.

My only question is if I'm going to bump it with my thumbs up grip...? ...On the other hand. My wife's only question would be if I really need another $35 part.

Number 1, not a problem, for my thumb.
Number 2, don’t tell wife....

I really would like to know if this is even possible before blowing the cash. Some vendors say it fits the older guns, some say no. There has to be a valid reason for this, somewhere. My suspicion is that funny little erection thingy sticking upwards has no where to go in the earlier frame. But I would have to strip my gun down for a look.

Thanks for the comments.

Question to ask is will the factory part from the MKIII fit the MKII version? Whats the inside of the frame look like from one version to the next?

Does anyone make an extended release for a MKII 22/45? Without the slingshot thing? Because you can get the slingshot mod by just removing the detent and spring. At least on a MKIII 22/45 that is.

In studying the diagrams of the bolt stops in both manuals, the only difference I see between the MKII and MKIII 22/45 parts is where the stop contacts the bolt to lock it back. The MKII is square, while the MKIII is tapered. This makes perfect sense since the bolt's forward edges are shaped that way too.

The corner in question doesn't appear to be as tapered on the MA part as it is in the Ruger MKIII diagram. It would probably work okay in your MKII just as it is.

Get the MA part and use your original stop as a guide to re-shape that corner. I'm thinking you'll find the difference is pretty small (based on my regular MKII, MKIII bolt stops).

Did you get the MA bolt release to work?

FYI, I got a VQ "Posi-Lock" bolt release for my 22/45, but it didn't fit. The entire piece was too thick. Volquartsen built up the shoulder where the stop contacts the bolt and the part won't fit in the cutout inside the frame. The other end fits on the trigger pin ok, but the increased thickness makes the bolt stop plunger jut out inside the frame. Maybe it will fit a MkIII 22/45, but it won't fit a MkII 22/45 or at least not mine.

I didn't know Dino passed away. RIP.

Sorry, I never ordered the part to try.... it is not real high on my Honey Do list since it most likely will be be a waste of money.
