Got my G1 Contender with 10 inch .22 magnum bbl out to shoot again today for a bit, and I had forgotten how much I love that gun! With the weight of the Contender, that .22 magnum is a pussy cat, and I just love that cartridge. Sorry, nothing really new to say here, other than I just really enjoy owning and shooting this particular handgun!

Sounds like a great round for the Contender

It really is. Here's the story. I used to own two stainless steel Contender frames and several barrels. Then during one of my "thin the herd" phases I sold them, only to regret it later.

So, several years later I decided to try to correct that mistake. I found a really nice used blued steel Contender that had the .22 magnum barrel. I actually tried to get the seller to sell the frame only, or with a different caliber barrel. He refused, so I went ahead and bought it. Turns out, it is my favorite!

That was my first centerfire barrel. Had problems with it over time and exchanged it for a K-Hornet which was my first bull barrel. I also had a .256 Mag which I loved and one of the fir shipment Super 14 in 30 Herrett.

Line up the rounds for the K Hornet, .256 and the Herrett and they looked like the 3 bears!

Yes, my .22 magnum is a bull barrel also and I just really love the heft of it.

I like mine also but haven't shot it in awhile. I have a G1 with 22LR match barrel, 22 Mag, 22 Hornet and a 357 Mag barrel. I kind of wish I still had my 223 barrel but I shot it the least.

That's a really nice selection of barrels! I'm especially envious of the 22Lr match barrel.

I have a pair of light 10" barrels for my Contenders. The 22 L.R. and 5 MM Remington. These change the Contenders nature considerably from the 14 inch bull barrels. Turns them almost wand like even with a 2X power scope mounted. I've only played with the L.R. in a Contender never the 22 Magnum.

5mm Remington, I think I posted this in the 5mm Forum.
Some others that I have on Imgur.
223 Remington
35 Remington
22 Hornet
I still have a 10" 7mm TCU that I haven't shot in about 20 years, a 14' 30-30and a 22 L.R Carbine set up as well as the already mentioned 10"22 L.R. set up. Where I live you can purchase 5 white tail doe tags for late season river bottom hunts across the counter. For hand guns they require straight walled cartridges (think 357, 41, 44, and 45 Colt) and barrels 10 inch's or shorter. This for me is revolver territory but as my eyes change the 10" bull barrel with a 2X scope in one of the 40+ calibers begins to make a lot of sense. That is the beauty of the Contender, versatility.

I have a pair of .22 Magnum contender barrels. One the original 10" octagonal length, pistol length, the other a 16" standard contour T/C carbine when mounted on rifle stock. Both are outstanding tools for walkabout activities.
