Today let's remember two wonderful Americans:
Lt. Col Bruce Crandall
& his wingman
Captain Ed Freeman

Together they showed the world what dedication is.

We should remember the heroes of the first of The Wars of Losing Propositions. I read the book. The Joint Chiefs learned nothing from the experience and continued to underestimate the opposition right up to the point where the USA gave up and pulled out.

Politicians and generals have still not learned, hence the involvement in places like Syria and the deployment of combat units in over 80 countries.

The Ia Drang battle and the Pleiku Campaign are a sad remainder that individual wartime accomplishments are overshadowed by willful ignorance, misjudgment, lack of foresight, and self-aggrandizement on the part of politicians and generals.

Right.. And in-spite of all that... Col Hal and these two men, took the fight to the enemy and beat them to the curb. It's not about anything but the love of these men for their brothers in arms.

My dad said of his time in Korea, "we didn't fight for country, we fought for each other."

And he was on Puller's flank at Chosin.

Another Charlie Foxtrot.

McArthur was a pompous fool that threw a regimental combat team into the meatgrinder when he didn't have to. And then tried to blame the brave men who did the best they could under the circumstances.
