ARA Factory Class

Folks have shot the 457 Match Target Rifle in Factory Class. Match chambered barrels IIRC.

They might not have asked for approval.

“At our first factory shoot all 6 shooters had CZ's and the top 3 had MTR 457's.”

Doesn't the 457MTR fall into the current production under $1000 catagory? Thus OK?

MTR msrp is $752 and Chassis model $999 via their website.

Interested in the KSA 722 PT myself with the later version of chassis. Msrp of $595 and made here.

John. You’re absolutely right but seems to violate the no target rifle rule. No matter, just a interesting test case.

Maybe one day, the ARA will offer a class for the vintage target rifle’s shooting the UL target from two piece rests / bipods. Can’t think of a downside but I don’t have the big picture.

I like the simple two class shoot format. Having set through awards ceremonies where there seems to be a constant desire to bring new shooters in by creating another class. Field Archery has five different age classes alone for male and female plus all the different classes for equipment and what class shooter within their group. Good grief it takes hours.

NMLRA shoots had hundreds of matches and placement for five top shooters in each match with talk of going to eight places to draw more in. Everyone should be a winner mentality. Good grief, your a winner or a loser, don’t really need a last place medal or certificate.

I think the "no target type rifles" is more of a guide to what is OK rather than a "rule".

At Green River, we run factory class on a different day than unlimited. (3rd Sunday vs 4th Saturday) We have more factory class shooters than the unlimited class the same month outside of a club tournament. Most of the factory class shooters are new to the ARA. The one or two unlimited guys that show up usually have a good time. Their experience is a great wealth to the new shooters.

The CZ 457 MTR is by far the most popular rifle shot in the factory class in matches I have hosted or participated in so far. 7 of 10, 8 of 10, 6 of 10 in the matches I have hosted. After each match, someone has gone out and picked up an MTR. Perfect cards have been shot with 2 MTRs and one Tikka T1X.
