If such person is "obligated," then they're not giving. They're trading.

Similar to how some (certainly not all) people "give" money to the church, in the hope that sugar daddy in the sky will drop some goodies on them.

Sophia's happy you didn't name certain ones one might imagine.

I wouldn't call it trading per say but rather their deeply rooted and variegated custom. Its complicated. One should refuse the gift several times before accepting its said. I believe I was in error of the value of the return gift. No worries for me as I had enough after 9 mo. there in 82-83.

Yeah - that's one more of mine on The List... "per se" is frequently miswritten.

I'm not perfect on spelling or grammer, but to clarify something, a magazine has a follower built in and a clip has no follower. This is the real truth.

Forgiven because of the use of variegated.

Dick Shinrey tells me gift is also a verb.

Dick's kinda half-right. It was used only in a legal sense, but has become "normal" to those that like hi-falutin' sounding speech...

I still don't like it. Or Dick Shinreys that say that.

I'll publish the memo.

I was shocked, shocked I tell you, to hear Juan Williams use the word "pled" today.

Some of this stuff is near and dear to my heart. I sometimes ponder how to make stuff up like this just to see a reaction from people. But I cannot BEGIN to come up with what my wife does naturally.

When our son was three we were at my parents one evening. He was wearing his socks and Mom and Dad’s hallway was nice and slippery making a great slide. He wasn’t bothering anybody when he’d take off running and slide with a joyful “wheeeeee!”. After a couple of those my wife threatened him. All was silent for a few minutes......and then......

Thumpthumpthumpthump “WHEEEEEEE!”.

My wife yelled “Jon-Curtis, you’re walking on thin water!”.

And she had the NERVE to get mad at ME because I couldn’t stop laughing!

“Greg, you’d better back me up!”

Took a few tries to explain “walking on thin water” to her.......

We should feel fortunate to read and write that well on RFC.

14% of the world's adult population can't read or write a simple sentence using common everyday words. 2% of the U.S.A..

We rank 16th of all countries in adult literacy. 23% of Americans only read and write at a seventh grade level. That's about 40 million adults. Remember when the Army rewrote training manuals down to lower grade levels?
