CZ 455 - Bolt Fluting

Can you flute the bolt on a removable magazine fed rimfire rifle like the CZ 455 without affecting the mechanical operation?

If so, has anyone done it? Who performed the work?

Thats some very nice work displayed there. I've always liked well done bolt fluting, same for barrels.

Never liked the idea...I don't think it looks good either...but to each his own.

barrel fluting

I have one rifle, a heavy offhand target rifle that I had the barrel fluted -- but it was to achieve a better balance specifically for shooting offhand matches without losing the stiffness or the barrel length for sight radius for iron sight matches. Its a custom rifle and the cost of fluting was included in the cost of the other machine work.

In theory, extreme barrel fluting is supposed to help add radiant surface to help cool rapid fire barrels

I think the OP was to BOLT fluting, not barrel fluting.

Fluting the bolt only removes weight (usually not a problem on a 22 rf.

I like engine turned bolt finishes. Looks good to me and when lightly greased, make the bolt as 'slick as cat..'. fine lines hold grease and also reduce friction.
