So took a nice older NM Single Six to the range this morning.
Gun was was thoroughly cleaned before hand.
First experience with a NM Single Six, 22LR and 22 Mag.
Tested a few different brands of ammo.
All groups shot at only 10yds., avg. for 6 shot groups
First .22LR:
First: Win. 555 Bulk 1.69"
Second: Mini-Mag HP 1.23"
Third: Blazer .95
Fourth: CCI Standard .72
Second: .22 Mag:
I fired three different brands and types, they were all bad.
Averaging 4", Shotgun Patterns
Is this the norm for a Single Six ?
I really want to like it but the accuracy seems sub par.
Try using a heavier bullet in your mag cylinder. Also, mark the chambers and see if any of them are consistently hitting out of the POI more so than the others. I’ve had that happen and had to get a new cylinder……problem solved. I’ve always had my best results with 40g bullets in .22mag

Your 22 Mag cylinder is probably not timed/aligned with the barrel.
I had NM Single Six that shot fine with the 22LR cylinder. With the
22 Mag cylinder it wouldn’t stay on an 11” x 17” target at 15 yds.
Sent it back to Ruger and they replaced the gun.

I think you are right, as I also had blow back in my face.
I look down the bore with my scope and it is a little off center but didn't
think that bad. This is not the original mag cylinder.
Wonder what Ruger would charge to fit a new Mag cylinder
However, cylinder gap is .003 and end shake maybe .002
Something is not right with your mag cylinder. It is my understanding that most single sixes shoot mags more accurately than long rifle. This is certainly the case with my 1983 vintage SS. At 15 yards I get 3/4 inch groups with Win 40 grain mag ammo.
Something is off with your gun. This was shot off hand at 15 yards with an assortment of 22LR that I had accumulated and wanted to use up. With 22 Mag 40 gr CCI they all stay in the small 2.5" circle.
Interested if the OP received another cylinder and has had any opportunity for follow up.
Thank you for the original information.
