Just got a screaming deal on a 1964 Anschutz 1408! Now for the rest of the story. A huge reason for the good deal I think is the fact that the stock is beat up badly, and someone chopped the buttstock very short, and screwed on a vintage Al Freeland adjustable buttplate hardware set. It doesn't fit anybody as far as I can see. I have shot it a little bit and am impressed. I stirred all night trying to figure out how to fix it. I decided to make a wood adapter section to go from graceful Anschutz to shovel handle Freeland. Not an easy task in 3". Here are a couple of pictures, I will update as I go along.

Nice repair, so far! I had to glue my Martini International stock back together because it had been shortened as well. At least it came with the cutoff portion.
As purchased:

Yours looks good, yes, great to have the piece,no two pieces are alike, very difficult to try to match.

Made the adapter piece and epoxied it in on the kitchen table (going to hear about that). It is not very elegant and the original stock is a true mess. This will allow me to shake out the rifles potential.
