Remington 513T Match Master

Hi all.
Wanted to share some pictures of a rifle I have owned for a while and that I truly enjoy shooting. Very early production (july 1940) Remington 513T "The Match Master". Rifle is in unmolested original condition, complete with its original Redfield sights and still retains the early adjustable trigger mechanism, which I understand are hard to come by. Completed the package with a 1940's J. Unertl 14x target scope, Flaig's Ace trigger shoe, a nice vintage Al Freeland handstop and a Turner Saddlery National Match sling. Very fine, accurate target rifle.

Rifle shoots good. I think it would be "easier" to shoot if the trigger pull was in the 2 pound range. Lowest it will go is 3 pounds. Although a tad heavy, it is very nice and crisp. Have heard that some gunsmithing can lighten the pull a tad more but I rather leave it in original condition.

This was a zeroing target at 50 yards, from the bench, a few weekends ago using Lapua Center X. Had the scope on another rifle until I could find and buy another Unertl.

Love the vintage blued steel and walnut!!! That is a classic with the Unertl scope. I enjoyed shooting my 513 and 37 and 521 until my local range closed down. They just sit in the safe and whine now.

Nice!

A really good looking outfit. I have the runt of the litter from the CMP. Ugly as sin. No finish left on the receiver, parkerized barrel with only about half the finish left. Shoot it occasionally. Nothing exciting, gorilla trigger but still spits them out. Maybe I'll put a scope on it next time.

I think my next purchase will be a model 37. Hoping I can also add a 40x, Winchester 75, 52, 52A,B and C, Stevens 418 Walnut Hill and a few more!

You can improve the trigger a bit...

by cleaning and polishing (judiciously) all surfaces of the trigger/sear parts including the pins and pivot holes. I have 3 I shoot..... a 1940 with a Tasco World Class 8-32, a 1945 with original Redfields, and a US 1966 that is currently sans scope as I stole it to test fire some other rifle projects. I can shoot all in the 190s at 100 yds with all of them and a better shooter could certainly better my scores!

Took the 513t for a spin this weekend trying my hand at 3 position. I am pretty happy with the results taking into account that I have not shot position since I got out of the Marine Corps in 2012. I am sure my shooting will improve with practice.

Target pictured was shot prone at 50 yards. Have to work on stability. 😊

I’ve got the 513 SA matchmaster. There is a “tetter-totter” limiter in the trigger system. I took it out and reduced the pull by a pound. Simple screw to remove or put back to return to original condition
