Rescue Savage Anschutz
Came across a Savage Anschutz 164 in need of rescue. Sights are missing, badly buggered stock screws, filler block in rear sight barrel boss and the muzzle end an open dovetail cut. Date date code on the barrel is 70. Read older posts here about the challenges of others in locating parts. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
DB

The rear sight is probably a Lyman 16c, though I don't know if Anschutz used the same height for all rifles.
The front sight will probably be more of a challenge.
Others here, are more knowledgeable about the older 64 sporter models, so don't take my words as 100% accurate.
Member Andyd would probably know the answers.

Looked at the Lyman, wondered about the dovetail fit. Was told the S/A cut is 11mm. Does anyone know if the 3/8” dovetail will work? Thanks

3/8" is about 9.3mm - so I would be surprised if you can center a 3/8 dovetail on your gun.
all Anschutz rifles have a 11mm dovetail for sights/scopes
If you can't find a used Anschutz rear sight/front sight in the US, try a german site - Egun (egun.de) and search for Anschütz diopter (copy this! to get the 'Umlaut')
You'll probably find something usable there.
Most people in germany have at least rudimentary English - so shouldn't be a problem. And most accept PayPal nowadays.

I’ve seen a lot of site sets for sale on target talk.

Good info!
Found that Lyman offers #16AML folding rear sight for Euro rifles that has a .360 dovetail cut and J & P Products sells Anschutz action screw sets.
Danke and I won't forget the umlaut.
Regards,

I think there is some confusion of sporter and match sights, as well as dovetails here.
Anschütz did not mount their open sporter sights on the 11 mm rails but in dovetails that are cut at 90º to the barrel. There were several rear sight options available from the factory but only one that fits the dovetail for the front sight: the four piece front sight. The four piece front sight came in two different heights and the higher one was used in combination with a higher Lyman rear sight.

I'm seeking the barrel mounted folding rear sight and the appropriate front sight. Is the correct rear sight pictured on the left? The correct front sight is still a mystery.
Thank you,
DB

Front sight will be the 4 part sight that fit a dovetail on the front of the barrel or the sight mounts with 2 tapped holes on the end of the barrel. I see both types listed on eBay some times.
Rear sight most likely be the Lyman folding 16C fitting the rear dovetail.

Jeff,
Front of the barrel does not have any screw holes, just a dove tail cut about 1/4" wide. Will send pics later to clarify.
Thank you,
Dave

Your rifle needs the 4 part sight shown in andyd's picture. I do see these on eBay, normally shipping from Europe. I have bought small Anschutz items from these sources and not had any problems.
Others may also give a source.
You might do a WTB in the classified section.

The ad states that these are for an automatic,(Model 520) not a bolt gun.

The Ebay ad is giving you two of the four parts necessary. While they appear to be the proper parts, the front sight base and post cannot be used without the missing clip and hood to secure the other parts firmly.
