Model 52B Repro Bolt Handle

Log in to see fewer ads
Question regarding the Model 52B reproduction. Can the bolt handle be easily swapped for another without disassembling the bolt? If so can you provide a brief description of the process?

I would like to grind and polish a replacement bolt handle to accommodate a low mounted scope, and switch back to the original bolt handle if desired.

Thank you.
John

You have to take the bolt apart to remove the handle. Not something your going to do at the drop of a hat.

There are tutorials in the sticky’s at the top of this page on how to dissemble the bolt. There are two tools you have to make. One out of a cheap Philip’s screw driver, round 1/4” shank that you grind or cut the end off flat then you grind a slot in the end 1/8” wide or so, 1/4” deep, enough to clear the pin holding the firing pin in. This tool is to push the firing pin spring out of the way. The second tool I made out of 1/2” copper plumbing pipe. Cut a piece 3/8” long then cut it open so you can straighten the legs and make a U out of it. At the top of the U cut a groove 1/8” wide and 3/16” long. This tool is to hold the bolt open, the groove is for your 1/16” punch to push the firing pin pin out. The bolt must be placed in a vice to work on it, use wood shims. A dremel is your friend for making the tools. Again the tutorials with pictures are at the top of the page.

Why would you want or need to replace the bolt handle? You will have to relap the lugs if you want it to function properly Head space will also be a problem that will have to be addressed.

Why? They mic exactly the same. If you prefer just grind your original bolt handle. Or use a smaller scope. But it works real nice. Thank you for your heads up on that point.
