Scopes gone away

Hello:

I first need to apologize for posting a scope question on the Winchester 52 page. It will never happen again. Moving along I wonder about things in target shooting that I shouldn't because time has moved on but I'm lost in long ago. That said quite some time ago, 1970- 1980 I shot indoor 50 ft. gallery 4 position smallbore. I used a Winchester 52 B standard barrel w/ a Lyman 18X Super Target. I'm sure they are a scope from Lyman's past but what I would like to know is what shooters use now in that type of shooting competition? Thanks for the memories...

Regards, Vinces

We have a group that shoots indoors 50 ft. in the winter. Scopes are anything that will focus. Mostly Leupold, Weaver, some of the older long scopes Lyman & Unertl.

I have one mounted on an Anschutz 54. I dont compete. It is just a nostalgia thing. And it came on the gun. It works surprisingly well. I picked up a spare with the cross hair missing. I was able to repair with tungsten wire. Try that with a modern scope! Someday, I will get another gun to use the scope.

I'll bet there's a lot that would love to have that setup today. All my target and singleshot guns have external adjusting scopes. I just enjoy handling the old Lymans and Unertls more than the plastic stuff of today. The optics may not be better but good enough for me. I'm sure you could buy one heck of a modern scope for price of Unertl.
