22 LR 10" Match Barrel

How do I tell if my 22 Contender Bull Barrel is a "Match" barrel or not. The one I have is not marked with anything other then 22 LR. It is a 10" blued bull barrel by T/C.

Thanks in advance for the education!

The "match" barrels are stamped as such.

My 20 inch Contender 22 L.R. barrel is stamped "Match", the earlier 10 inch pistol barrel isn't stamped match so isn't.

It should say match on the barrel. I have two that are match......stamped on barrel. My other .22lr is regular and does not say match.

22 match barrel

I have had both match and standard, I couldn't see much difference in accuracy. They both shot extremely well.

Wasn't the difference the chambers tightness and the length of the leade? I don't remember exactly.

I have had both, and the difference that stood out was when you placed a cartridge in the match barrel and went to close the action you could actually feel the resistance as the bullet was being forced against the rifling and on the non-match barrel you didn't feel that. Accuracy wise I didn't notice significant difference.

Thank you to all who replied! That is exactly what I was looking for. Additionally, thank you for answering the next question I didn’t ask - what is the difference in accuracy between the two...apparently it is negligible. My barrel is NOT a “match” barrel. Again...thank you!!

I bought a .22LR Contender round barrel in the old days before they offered a match barrel, the chamber was very, very, loose and accuracy was poor. I sent it to TC and they returned it unaltered, saying it was "within tolerances". I traded it off and never bought another TC product.

As I said, I have both, a match barrel and a standard barrel. I’m still working on finding a good ammo choice for the match barrel, but during a recent range trip, the match barrel is definitely more accurate than the standard barrel.

Back in the 1980 era, my wife, my son and I all shot IHMSA matches avidly, gone every weekend. We all shot Contender .22's with the heavy barrels, both 10" and 14", they shot like rifles, I won the Wyoming State Championship with a 10" in 1984. Cant recall if they were "Match" marked or not. Still have one of the 10" models but havent shot if for quite some time, might be time to drag it out to the range.

I've shot many of the standard Contender 22 LR barrels and about half a dozen of the Match barrels in various configurations. Some of the standard barrels were very accurate, on a par with the Match barrels, but some of those standard barrels were mediocre. Lots of variation. The Match barrels were more consistently accurate, overall.

14” super 22 cal. Match. The chamber is very tight. Most match chambers are tighter than standard.
