German G33 Training Rifle

These were issued to some German Bundeswehr battalions as training rifles around 1956 and were kept in the armory. I had shot them in the basement of the barracks as a kid and later in the same barracks as a soldier.
The sights are not really easy to see anymore at my age and the trigger is leaning on the simple Mauser K98 design but I can still shoot that gun as well as an Anschutz Match rifle with its tricked out sights. I shot it at 25 yards with Aguila SV offhand and this little gun that helped me to learn to shoot will be used as a training rifle for a Dallas Police officer in the coming months to become the best shot with his issued AR.

That is a beautiful rifle and obviously quite accurate. Clearly it also has sentimental value to you.

Who made the rifle? Mauser, Walther....?

It should be perfect to teach the police officer to shoot accurately.

It is built by Anschutz on a 54 Match action but with a very simple trigger, much like the 98 Mauser. The German army had a tender out for rimfire trainers and Anschutz, Walther and Erma were chosen for the contract. Anschutz won the largest part by far. They all shared some common features, like the sight hood. It is actually the same sight hood that the Walther KKJ used, if it can be found at all, one that costs in excess of $150 these days.

The officer that I am going to shoot with is actually my youngest son.
