I shot a couple of SC matches (pre Covid) with my 5.5" M41 with a Vortex Venom, but I use a thumb forward grip, which caused me to rub the bottom of the slide and cause reliability issues

a friend just moved into Master with a M41... a gunsmith friend milled a 1913 width rail profile section into the top of the barrel for a Holosun 510c... he shoots it with one if not both thumbs on the 510 to keep them from contacting the slide

Slide protection

Ray Brandes offered his Bully barrels with an optional thumb guard to prevent this very thing. It is quite easy to fabricate a guard from a flat piece of aluminum and install one of these but it does require you to drill and tap a couple of holes in the barrel to secure it. Thanks

Misk... I've had my $325 M41 since we shot the Chevy Truck Team Challenge from 1994-1999... didn't have the heart to do anything but add a rail in the pre drilled slide for an EER 2x pistol scope and perceived that repeated take down for cleaning would "loosen" for SC competition ... a 22/45 MKIV seemed like a viable alternative... though more costly at the current price scheme... regards
