25 Yard scoped entry

DATE: 10/08/2021
SCORE: 203 3X
NAME: jazzsax8 (Marshall 73)
LOCATION: Pawnee Grasslands, CO
GUN: Ruger Mark II Comp Tgt w/Ultradot Matchdot II red dot on 8 moa
GUN SETUP: Herrett Nationals
AMMO: CCI SV
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 75, 87 2X, 41 1X

Have shot 14 rounds of 25 so far this month and this one is the best putting 10 shots into two bulls and 5 into one. Have been selling and changing parts over the past month and hopefully if I can leave well enough alone for awhile, it might add a few points! I did shoot a 202 2X with the Scorpion but generally the Ruger with both barrel options are right in there at my skill level. Here is a picture of options for this month. Still trying to get the right feel for the support hand on both grips. Removed some of the rubber from the Volquartsen grip to get the support hand higher as there was a ridge at the rear and too much under the magazine release to make it as comfortable as it is now. It is a grip for large hands and there might be a way to add some kind of substance to get a custom fit for smaller hands.

Well, I wish I had better news than Jazzsax, but my outings lately have been discouraging. Best I could do was no better than previous bests (which were 213 Irons and 235 Dot).

However.........I can still take pride in my domination of the "Over 75" division.

I'll try at least once more this month......snow will soon be coming and may put an end to my efforts. I suspect November will be iffy.

Those darn little bulls are elusive.

Interesting.......some of you know that I am lucky enough to have a nice rural range where it's never crowded.

I think the ammo shortage has something to do with it.

Today a guy was shooting black powder pistol over on the other side.

Loud.......but long pauses for reloading and he was soon gone.

On my two last previous outings.......both times I had a guy over on the other side shooting a pellet gun.

Hardly noticed him.

I'm glad I stayed stocked up on ammo.

this spring

When I started this back in March/April, I recorded some groups and even a few failures to fire as I did not know how much the cold (38-40 degrees) was affecting my ammo. As it warmed up, everything tightened up! Will put it inside my jacket going ahead when things cool down.

Roc

My "improvement" has been pretty slow as well. I run 175's to 200 on a regular basis that is not much better than after the first month I got going. Still have not tried NO COFFEE yet, and might not ever!

I had bright autumn sun directly from the right today and I know it made a difference, especially with the Firesight.

S"posed to be cloudy tomorrow morning and I might go out again. I have some rifle shooting to do for the Offhand Rifle thread and I want to see how a real cloudy day affects my aiming.

I also have a different rifle to try.......a lightweight 10-22 compact that's the exact opposite of the 10-22 Heavy Barrel I've been using.

Hope to have time to do all three sets and hoping the rain holds off 'til I do.

I'll be having coffee.

I'll try to get in a 15-Yard Scoped (Dot) entry yet this month.

My experiment with the small rifle for the offhand rifle matches didn't go well.......lots of difficulties with the scope and rifle and when I finally got it all together it didn't do quite as well as the larger Ruger 10-22T.

All this has transpired over the last few days and consumed a lot of time and ammo.

But it's all fun and nice to be out in the beautiful fall weather.
