When I started this back in March/April, I recorded some groups and even a few failures to fire as I did not know how much the cold (38-40 degrees) was affecting my ammo. As it warmed up, everything tightened up! Will put it inside my jacket going ahead when things cool down.

Roc

My "improvement" has been pretty slow as well. I run 175's to 200 on a regular basis that is not much better than after the first month I got going. Still have not tried NO COFFEE yet, and might not ever!

I had bright autumn sun directly from the right today and I know it made a difference, especially with the Firesight.

S"posed to be cloudy tomorrow morning and I might go out again. I have some rifle shooting to do for the Offhand Rifle thread and I want to see how a real cloudy day affects my aiming.

I also have a different rifle to try.......a lightweight 10-22 compact that's the exact opposite of the 10-22 Heavy Barrel I've been using.

Hope to have time to do all three sets and hoping the rain holds off 'til I do.

I'll be having coffee.

I'll try to get in a 15-Yard Scoped (Dot) entry yet this month.

My experiment with the small rifle for the offhand rifle matches didn't go well.......lots of difficulties with the scope and rifle and when I finally got it all together it didn't do quite as well as the larger Ruger 10-22T.

All this has transpired over the last few days and consumed a lot of time and ammo.

But it's all fun and nice to be out in the beautiful fall weather.

Shot a few at 25 yards this month, and realized I never entered any. The scores aren't high, maybe that's why. But at least the one is within a few points of my 25 yard high score....

***25 Yd IRONS ENTRY***

DATE: 10/14/21
SCORE: 177-1X
NAME: Signmaster (Bob) AGE: 58
LOCATION: Va Beach indoor
GUN: High Standard Victor
GUN SETUP: bone stock, iron sights
AMMO: CCI SV
INDIV TGTS SCORES: Shot on two, nothing exciting!
NOTES: Haven't shot much at 25 yards and it shows.

Things change at 25 yards, and I'm also fighting bad lighting at the range. If I can't tighten up some @ 25 yards, I might start shooting the USMC pistol workbook, but using two handed hold for now. I've popped a few here and there one handed, and have always been interested in bullseye shooting anyway.

And if nothing else, it might get me into the mental game of things more. We will see.

As for everyone else, remember.

Rule #1 - have fun

I think it's easy for us to get bummed out when we don't always improve, even if we are trying. After a while, a high score for a shooter is likely to stand for a while now and then. Not shooting enough allows us to slip. Not being into it completely lets us slip.

And a saying.... Practice doesn't make perfect. PERFECT practice makes perfect. And most of us have more room for that.

It was an easy month to keep track of, since we both got the same numbers!

Thanks again for setting this up Dennis. Having the numbers gives me something to strive for every trip. But then again, if I keep banging my head against the wall and getting nowhere at 25 yards.... well I can always blame you for my frustrations!

I really have to slow down and figure out why 25 yards is beating me so badly. Maybe it's time for a vision check or something. But being I've seen progress at 10 and 15 yards, I would think the same would happen at 25. I might just be getting in my own head too, but hope to figure it out soon.

Heck, Bob, 25 yards might as well be a mile for me. I'm still struggling to get all 25 shots inside the rings at 15. I've been thinking about blaming you...

15 yards

Looks like I am a loner at 25 yards scoped and the largest group is shooting 15 yards with open sights. I am going to give this a try just to see how I am doing for comparison.

Do you use a 6 O'clock hold or dead on center hold for this distance?

Thanks,
Marshall

I try for center and watch my sights rock around the clock in a one to 12 dance.

I jerk the trigger any time that seems like an opportune moment.

Often I manage to stay in the black.......other times.........not so much.

Go ahead... blame me! It's amazing how the distance changes things so quickly really. All those little things add up quick. Sometimes I think the thing to do would be think opposite of how most of us do. Shoot at say 30-35 yards, and get excited when we hit paper. Then continue from there. But I know for me, I do the opposite.... get upset when I'm out of the scoring rings.

I was the loner at 25 yard irons this month. At least it made it easy for us to be top of the respective classes.

I always shoot 6 o'clock myself. But I've been thinking about switching it up as distance grows. It seems to take less concentration for me to hold point of aim in the black as the distance grows. Or maybe I just make that up since I fade as distance grows! Usually I think the 6 o'clock hold gives a more precise aiming point.

But you beat my scores at 25 yards, so maybe I should be asking you these questions?

Photos requested... those pistols look awesome!

I don't think I've ever seen something like that with a dot on it.

As for first time, welcome to the group. We have a lot of fun shooting for scores. Obviously for some of us, sometimes we bang our heads trying to shoot better. And sometimes it all just seems easy though too.... depends on the shooter and the day.

Whoopee! Went out yesterday and shot ten and fifteen yds, got all but one shot inside the 15 yd rings, and didn't miss that one by much Not my best score, though. New neighbor to Dad stopped in to make sure I wasn't shooting at his house...we had a nice chat. He said next time he hears me he may stop over with his Ruger.
