Is a Marlin 39A 1941 the same value of a Ruger 10/22 magnum? Less or Higher I have a guy wanting to work a deal and just trying to get a value idea!

A suggestion in finding values.

Go to Gunbroker.com and select advanced search, then select completed auctions. Look at what guns actually sold for. Be careful to see the completed sales, not those with a reserve that was not met. After a while, you will see what the market is.

On a personal note, the Marlin is not made anymore and probably never will be. I would value the Marlin much higher.

The Ruger 10/22 magnum isn't made anymore either. The key is what is the value TO YOU?

Condition of each is a big missing factor here..I know the 10-22s in magnum are somewhat pricey and hard to find..But an early Marlin in good condition, my choice would surely be the Marlin..

Id rather COLLECT the Marlin, and Id rather SHOOT the Ruger. But even then, condition is always my primary and deciding factor. This is such an apples to oranges comparison anyway, only you can assign values to them.

Here's a recent auction on a 10/22 magnum. I think you may be surprised.

Yup, this is the direction I would be moving on a trade.

As much as I love the Marlin 39A, in this case I would have to go with the Ruger. Lots more of the Marlin 39A rifles have been made than the Ruger 10/22 Magnums. I think down the road that Ruger is going to appreciate in value very nicely.

Between the two I would go for the Marlin in a heart beat...the 10/22 is ok in my book but too short for me no matter what caliber it was. Besides I really don't care for automatics for many reasons. One other factor is accuracy and how fast you can blow through ammo with an automatic...the 22mag is a hunting round and I have no clue how accurate they can be. For me 22mag is one shot one kill so a 39A if I got into lever actions would be nice to have but lever actions don't excite me either.

So this is all your decision to make.

Good luck on your quest.

Doesn't the Marlin 39A made in 1941 have a case color frame? That would make the Marlin more valuable if the colors are vivid. But that would be a grail gun for me.

You're not doing your homework. The 39-A ia worth far more than a 10/22. That's assuming that the 10/22 hasn't had hundreds of dollars spent tricking it out and accessorizing it.

Not a normal 1022 a 1022 magnum. Which are like unicorns.

But putting market value aside, if my 39 a and my normal 1022 were sitting side by side , and i was going out to shoot, and could only take one, the marlin would be left behind. Just too much darned work , tube loading and lever pulling , heavy as heck, and too small a rail to put a big scope on.

This just comes down to which the individual prefers, for me the Marlin would win every time but I know lots of folks for whom the Ruger would be an easy choice.
