for me

Not battle worthy but for a .22 I use:

Burris Fastfire III $180 used and does a great job overall.

Vortex Venom $200 used and just a hair nicer than the Burris

Sightron SRS-2 $319 new and beats both of the above in clarity and build quality. One for sale on the classifieds.

Burris Fastfire IV- just took possession of one and will test drive it Monday. Will be a winner for sure, love the ability to change the reticle.

Ultra Dot $150-200 used they usually have the best looking dot that is round. Bulky by comparison but the Bullseye crowd is rarely wrong.

No matter what brand/model you get, check it out for the apparent parallax at the average yardage you will use it. Owned two with bad movement of 2 1/2 and 4" at 25 yards. Its not really parallax but looks like it. Probably comes from aberrations in the glass and expensive models over $500 are not immune!

Check the warranty as they are all over the place. The ones above are fabulous covering secondary owners no receipt required, other brands not so much!

I like the C-More Railway polymer. They run about $230 and have interchangeable modules with dots ranging from 3 to 16 moa. I use 12 for Steel Challenge Matches and 3 for bullseye.

It's the brightest dot of any I've tried and will not wash out in bright sunlight.

Swampfox Kingslayer with the green reticle. I don't know why I never considered red dots sooner.

I own and use three Vortex Razor red dots and love them best.
I have an unused UltraDot Match Dot II and Aimpoint 9000SC in the box that needs a ride on something eventually.

Pentax Gameseeker on mine. Large viewing window is necessary for me for FOV on steel. Seriously. Took off a Bushnell TRS-25, and even a Vortex Venom before finding what is right for me.

I'm definitely liking Holosun.

I recently acquired a green reticle model HE507C-GR-X2 for my Competition Kit enhanced Taurus TX22, and it's awesome. I see more of this model optic in my future:

A red reticle Holosun HS507C-X2 atop my Walther 5" Compact model PDP:

And a Vortex Venom on my Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite:

The Holosun models are definitely more robust than the Venom, and have better features - which is reflected in their higher price.

All optics should be purpose driven; in my case they're either for self defense or for casual target shooting. If I were a serious competitive shooter I imagine there's a pretty good chance that I would choose something different like a normal optical scope or one of the C-More Railway models. But since I'm not, the Holosun models are a nice option that are easy to install via a standard picatinny rail or separate mount, they have a side loading battery tray (in lieu of an often difficult to manipulate fine thread screw on/off cap seen on other red dot optics, e.g., on the Vortex Venom) so the optic doesn't have to be removed and sighted back in after swapping out a dead battery, some have a solar power backup, and there are models with multiple reticles to include a Chevron type with a larger outer normally unseen ring that only shows itself when the main reticle is out of the viewing window, which can be especially helpful to those who are not accustomed to using small open reflex sights.

Holosun HS507C red dot optic with Primary Arms ACSS Cyclops reticle examples:

drewerts, I suggest that you visit your local gun shop(s) or big box sporting goods store and ask to see various models of these types of optics from the different manufacturers, to help you make a decision on what to purchase based on its intended purpose.

Another vote for Holosun, 507c. I know lots of guys that use them on 9mm and .40 cal slide pistols, so it made me feel like it is more than robust enough to work on a 22 without a reciprocating slide.

Although I do not have any experience with it, I would check out the ACSS reticle from Primary Arms. Everything I’ve watched and read looks like a great idea and very functional.

I have a Vortex Venom, 3 MOA, mounted on my 617 revolver. I also have a Bushnell TRS-25 that I like very much for bullseye targets.

There are a lot of nice red dot options in here, along with a lot of nice hardware they are sitting on. You should all bring your toys and shoot the Offhand Handgun Matches with them.

The only name I've seen there is Jazzsax8, and he shoots it plenty.

And I'm not just promoting.... I'm thinking of getting a red dot in the future, but mostly with the hopes of improving scores for scored targets... sooo......
