My favorite center fire rifle hands down, and the design of the M14 lends itself well to us southpaws from my dealings with them. (Contrary to what some of the manuals out there state.)

The reason I like it is that the left hand doesn't ever have to leave the grip, while the right can operate the op-rod handle, mag release, and insertion of a fresh mag into the mag well. Brass is ejected out and away at the 1/2 o'clock, and the location of the safety allows for ease of use with either hand.

Note: When the last round is fired, the bolt will lock back via this rifle's bolt stop. After another mag is loaded, (or 5rd cartridge clip is loaded directly into empty mag while it is still locked in the rifle), ....... the right hand simply pulls the op-rod handle to the rear so that the bolt stop disengages from the bolt...... then let her fly home.

good news - I loved shooting the M14 for qualification... something about shooting a high powered rifle at a distance with just peep sights....
bad news - they only let me shoot 30 rounds total (10 stand, 10 sit, 10 prone)

Then again, I got to shoot the M60 AND Browning .50 cal full auto, and the 1911

I was in the last series to go through Parris Island with the M14 in 1973. As a lefty shooter I never had any issues with it like I did with the M16. Saw one at a gun show a few weeks ago. $14,500.00

I was issued an M14 in 1966 in basic at Ft Hood and that was what I was initially provided on my All Expenses Paid Trip to SE Asia later that year. Great rifle . . . Those were replaced with "Black Rifles" early in 1967. I liked the M60 & 1911 as well. I bought an MIA National Match several years ago thinking I would shoot it alongside my M1 but had a very weak moment and traded it "unfired" for something I thought I needed. Now years later . . . I totally regret that move. .

That is cheap if it is a transferable original.
