Only chance I had to get on yesterday was during the blackout.

Cloudy weather yesterday and today, the rain won't quite make it to us. We dang sure could use it. At least it is not blazing hot - like it will be next week.

COVID just won't go away, more and more news, talk of masks, etc. So tired of this mess.

The White Marlin Open is going on in Ocean City, MD. On Monday a boat sank 60 miles off shore. Thankfully, another boat about a mile and half away heard the Mayday, pulled their lines and turned 3100 HP full up to their rescue. The crew (6 of them) on the sinking boat had donned life jackets and deployed the life raft as the other boat, "Fish Bone arrived. Fish Bone towed the life raft away from the sinking boat and then got them on board. No injuries, every one safe. "Knot Stressed" now sits on the bottom at 2000 feet down. Knot Stressed was fighting a blue marlin and as it was backing down on the fish, took on too much water, killed one motor, high water alarm sounded and crew abandoned ship.

Meanwhile, only one qualifying white marlin has been brought to the scales (Monday). Currently worth 4.9 millions dollars. The tournament has a total 9 million dollar purse. They also have categories for tuna, wahoo, blue marlin (one on the board at 559.5 pounds!) and shark.

If you ever have the chance, walk through Sunset Marina in the evening when all the boats are docked. Pictures do not do it justice.

Have a great day.

Good Morning RFC'rs, et al:

My ticker finally had found it's normal rhythm. 67 BPM right now.

Another day of toil today. A long day of toil. I'm sure I'll deal with unhappy customers who couldn't pick up their firearms/transfers.

Gretchen had a couple of hours wandering the house this morning while Scout was outside.
Now Scout is inside and scarfing his food.
The door is still open for Gretchen to come out and introduce herself to Scout.
It's gotta happen sometime.

The squirrels are bullying me through the door for their food.

Now there's an expensive lesson how much water that 34' model can take over the stern, hence, 'Engine compartment 1/2 of water'. When fishing alone I chased the big king salmon with the pointy end of the boat towards the fish when using light line.

Up @ 5am cause my sinuses were all plugged up and lungs are irritated with the Canadian smoke this am @ 69˚, like being on the wrong side of the campfire too long.

Correct AZ. The brine (salt) and chemical (potassium Permanente) tanks are not installed yet because they aren't ready to move into the house, I'll go back and set them up later.

Went ocean fishing once. That was one time too many for me.

News flash.

https://phys.org/news/2021-08-people...es-lonely.html

Quote:
A team of researchers from the University of Hong Kong and one from Oxford University has found that people who live in the denser parts of U.K. cities tend to be lonelier than people living in more open areas.

...

The researchers found a pattern. Those living in closely packed apartment complexes reported feeling lonelier than people living in places with more space between living quarters. More specifically, they found that loneliness increased by 2.8% for each additional 1000 housing units within a kilometer of where people lived, and self-isolation rose by 11.4%.
Squares with my own observations having lived in everything from a small studio in downtown Manhattan to the wide open spaces of The Raggedy Edge.

I won't say the city dwellers were "lonely" but my observation is they self isolate. My neighbors in Manhattan, living practically cheek to jowl, barely knew each other. People came home from work, locked themselves in and either stayed there or went out for the evening but they didn't socialize with their neighbors. In some cases they didn't even know names and might refer to someone as "you know, the guy in 7A."

I created quite a stir not long after moving in when I tip-toed around on Christmas Eve hanging stuffed stockings from door knobs. It got neighbors talking to each other, in some cases for the first time, as they tried to identify the guilty party. (I also hung one on my own door and left it there until I knew it had been seen and never confessed.)

Here on The Raggedy Edge "neighbor" defines anyone within about five miles and everyone knows everyone (and maybe too much about each other's business ) and one phone call is all it takes to get the "neighborhood" roused to action on anything from a washed out road to a stray horse.
