This survey is intended to gather Serial Number information on these rifles. In addition to the SN we are looking for type of wood, Peg information and notes. The notes are most important and should include but not limited to date acquired, hand tag information especially dates, sights if nonstandard and any information you feel is noteworthy. I will keep the SN's in descending order oldest to newest as follows:

SN, Peg/s, wood type, notes

No SN, both, Walnut, Manufactured between 1966 and early 1967
507688, both, Walnut, no info
747268, 1 red, Birch, no info
8893??, 1 red, Walnut, no sights
1104367, 1 red, Walnut, no info
1390665, 1 red, Walnut, no info
1399125, 1 red, Walnut, no info

Mine doesn't have a SN. Shouldn't it? They were made after 1969. Either it doesn't or I'm getting dumber.
Surely you jest? I'm sure you know that the first few made had no serial numbers and are by far the most rare LSB's made. LSB production began just prior to the Gun Control Act of Oct 22, 1968 and therefor do not have serial numbers. Vic has never seen one but he told me he was sure they exist. Now we know....our first real break through. Please post some pictures and I'll get it on the list. WOW! Regards, Rick.

Some preliminary thoughts. As originally guessed by many, the early rifles seem to have both the red and green pegs. Originally assumed to be Beech, I have changed my Beech stock to Birch. Beech just doesn't have the fiddleback this rifle is blessed with. I would like some feedback on this. Regards, Rick.

Hello dhuze. I never said "I don't believe you". In fact, I did and that's why I wanted empirical evidence. Mossberg conformed during this time with the other manufactures and switched the peg concept so when the Red peg was showing the rifle was hot...in other words, Mossberg moved the red peg to the right..... Then it became redundant to have a green peg and it was eliminated. This is another important finding thanks to you and other contributors. Things keep getting cleared up daily and your contribution is greatly appreciated. Regards, Rick.

Solddaboat, that looks like walnut to me under that shiny stuff. Are you referring to the area on the stock near the chamber? Looks like carry wear if that's the area you are referring to. Then maybe the shiny stuff put on over the worn stock?? Just my .02. I don't have one yet, seen a few for sale, whats a fair price??

A fair price is what it is worth to you.

In good condition and with all accessories (correct sights, handstop and swivels) - $250 is the low end and north of $300 seems to be the norm.

21915B - Only a red peg, but there's a space for a green one - as far as wood type, I am honestly not sure. It's got grain much like walnut, but it's a light wood w/no dark streaks or highlights, the stock was stained blonde... doesn't look like it has been refinished but I wouldn't swear to it....

Can you post some pictures? Please recheck the SN as there are no known letter suffix rifles. Is there a space for the green peg or a hole in the wood? Vic told me there were many of these rifles made with very light colored Walnut. Regards, Rick.
