Florida, 7/31/2020, 25 yards.

Practice:
Score: 329-4x

Ammo: Federal hi-speed bulk
Individual scores: 54-0x, 65-2x, 60-0x, 72-1x & 78-1x = 329-4x
Comments: Had to learn where to set the sights and where to hold them all over again, plus usual wandering with shots outside scoring rings. But then next time ...

Entry:
Score: 373-2x with the Marlin 39A, same info above.
Individual scores: 65-0x, 76-1x, 78-0x, 77-1x & 77-0x = 373-2x
Comments: This time I tried holding the rifle in a much firmer grip than usual.

and ... Entry:
Score 428-6x
Gun: Ruger 10/22
Sights: Leupold 1.5-5x
Ammo: Federal hi-speed bulk
Individual scores: 88-2x, 87-2x, 84-2x, 81-0x & 88-0x = 428-6x
Comments: Again, trying to hold rifle in a very firm grip. Never done so before. Maybe it reduces the shakes I seem to have developed ?

Well i guess it pays to keep trying...

Last ditch effort for the month with both guns
I think friday being a 'no coffee' day might have helped, i was less shakey today.
I also shot earlier in the day before my eyes got tired.
Anyway it was a beautiful day to shoot.

Nice shooting David, that is WAY better than i did last time i tried with the 10/22 , and also better than i did last try with open sights on my Marlin. My score of 223 is still visible on the boards at Aug 2019.
For the very light rifles you are shooting, those are good scores, i doubt that i could touch them with the same guns. Still fun to switch up once in a while though.

BTW i have tried both tight and loose holds depending on the day. Today i was a lot more relaxed than usual and the rifles just kind of hung there balanced on my left palm. I need to shoot more, not less, so i can catch these kind of days, they are getting rarer for me

Cheers
Bob

Sunday 25 yard open sight practice 7/26/2020
Score: 305-2X
Name: 72coupe/Roy Woodman
Location: Wichita Falls, Tx
Gun: My fathers 87A Springfield that is older than me
Set up: Factory open sights
Ammo: Wolf MT
Individual Target Scores: 83, 73, 55-1X, 56, 38-1X
Notes: I have been wanting to try dads old rifle in this match so Sunday I took it to the range. I shot it without my coat. The trigger on this rifle is 5.5 pounds but seems like a lot more. I had 2 malfunctions of the same sort. It short stroked only pulling the spent case part way out and bending the one on the lifter so badly they are very difficult to get out of the magazine. The last one after 5 shots on the last target could not be removed at the range so I only got 45 shots.

I have seen this type of malfunction before when as an 11 year old tried to make it full auto. I was able to make it full auto but the spring in the magazine tube was not able keep up with the rate of fire and it always bent the 3rd round into a banana. I was not able to solve that problem so I returned it to its original condition.

The best description I've heard is passive muscle tension.

With a well balanced rifle and unified upper body (just enough bone support to hold rifle up without transferring pulse, just enough muscle to dampen wobble and trigger disturbance ala Bullseye Pistol), the hips and spine are like a limited gimbal, and the fine aiming is with the legs. If the trigger is pressed as the sights are going out, the arms can jerk it back in.

Yeah, I would be happy with either, especially on the first day of the month. Very nice.

Ever get in a slump and think you will never recover? That's where I am, not very far off, but feeling poorly. Shot a 194 after a 192. Shots were on call, but scored worse than called. I will have to dig myself out like a baseball player.
