OZ,

Your 65' has the original A54 Ruger Pistol frame. The mag follower button resides on the "right side" where the grip frame has a one-sided cut-out and the silver base is permanently attached to the mag body. During 1972, this prior 23 year arrangement changed to the left side and is still found in today's MkIV!

If the mag only holds 9 rounds it's probably the right one.

You can use the later mark l magazines if you switch the button to the other side. Use a small screwdriver or punch to push the follower down from the top and the button will slide out once it lines up to the hole in the slot. You will be very hard pressed to find an original A54 style mag. I have only ever seen one that didn't come with the gun.

Original magazines are available most of the time on eBay but you will pay big money to get one, especially if it's the early one with only one slot as pictured above.

Additionally, on this GB Pg4, 3 Std/MkI mags by 3 different sellers are currently for sale (MGTS listing will only work in a pre-1972 Std or MkI)!

Solid base magazine

If the magazine has the solid base and a slot on both sides it is made after 1972 to fit either the new or old MKI or std frame! Only the slotted on the right side would be for the frames prior to 1972!

I bought the one HighStandard guy pointed out. It will not work in my gun. The button is on the wrong side. Doesn't look like it can be changed..The search continues...
