does the cf barrel have a metal shell over the carbon fiber wrap......my cf bbl is smooth to the touch and sounds metal when you tap it....it has the pattern wrap it but wasn't expecting it to feel so smooth....tia
Have you tried putting a magnet against it? I don't know the answer to your question but if it is a metal sleeve it'd just about have to be steel, I think.
I'm guessing it's a pre moulded carbon tube, the exterior profile is a byproduct of the high temp molding process likely used in the construction of the sleave.
Most rimfire "carbon" barrels are tensioned sleeves on a thin blank. Others like the magnum research are carbon tubes pressed on a liner. The only true carbon wrap barrels for the rimfires are the proof research. They cost what a bergara b14r barreled action costs....
My guess is the bergara b14r carbon barrel is constructed much like the magnum research. A carbon tube is molded in an oven then machined and pressed over a liner. Would be about the only way to hit the price point.
got thru to Bergara and they said that it was the pressure hardened epoxy and it was made smooth by the pressure process.......thanks for the replies..
