Some suggestions on my walking stick....

Log in to see fewer ads
I have 3 of these Cold Steel Walkabouts. I gave one to my son and keeping one for home and my truck. One I wrapped with black cloth tape for grip when its cold and wet. But being mostly in city/suburban hoods it looks like a black club.(wish they made a wood grain look model) So I've thought about some type of wood grain cloth tape. Or non slip wood color plastic paint. That would eventually wear through but might give more of a grain look. Give me some ideas. Oh and I don't need help walking. It is a club. I used to walk with one of my old broom ball sticks but its end heavy and breakable. These are lighter and won't break. Pallet and concrete block tested. Thanks.

Is it against the law to be armed with a club in NYC?

French hitch and or diamond wrap with a small diameter cording ? Maybe wrap with perforated leather tennis racket wrap . Seems like pretty much anything you do it will still be a club . Could also check out shrink wrapping like they do on cars and trucks , lots of patterns available From camo to wood grain is possible or anything else for that matter . WJR

Use a contrasting model paint with a small brush and get creative in a folk-art to fine-art kind of way? Embellished it may appear to be more an accessory than a club.
And do the 'walk' with it properly

I use one daily which I cut from an oak sapling. I walk softly with a big stick. Was that Teddy Roosevelt who suggested that.

Paint it any colour but white.

Paint with a coat of tan and let dry. Then paint with a coat of brown and wipe down the high spots before it dries.

In some states...........

a plain piece of wood is not considered to be a weapon. However, add a tape wrap and it can be considered to be a weapon. I used to carry a set of martial arts short sticks in my car for a non threatening looking weapon but I added some tennis racquet tape on the handles. A law officer friend saw them and told me those would be cause to get arrested. Plain handle, ok...... wrapped handle, no no!

The plain, old, curved handle hardwood farmer's cane was used, among other things, in the stock pens to herd large 'animals'; it still can....
Expect you can still find them at farm supply stores (Ive got mine so I havent shopped for one).
