Well positioned for shooting from a standing position while keeping the head erect. Helps prevent swaying back and forth as the inner ear tells your brain you're about to fall over.

Thank you!!!

As I was reading I was thinking’s same thing... My Remington 541T has a 24” Darrel and with Subs it almost like having a suppressor

The 455 finish does not match and that adds un necessary cost to the rifle. One might also suggest buying a lathe and learning how to cut and crown a barrel. It is actually one of the easier home smith jobs. Or, CZ could offer one 457 with a sensible barrel length.

TIA,

The long length is to make Signalman1 happy.

CZ hit a home run with the 457 American. I really enjoy the 452 Americans but the UL is so nice in the woods with sub sonic ammo. Short barrels make guns look cheap. Short barrels with cans look like cheap junk to me. Great thing about the American is if ya want a long barrel, no problem. If ya want a short barrel, no problem. A 20 minute fix. Ruger RAR,s are same price as 457,s if you get a wood stock last I saw. Tupperware and a short barrel is a match made in ? Well they deserve each other. I like the new trigger guard, safety, recoil lug, pillars, fully adjustable trigger, cock indicator and old mags. Great job CZ👍👍

Amen to that...I have many rimfire rifles all the way back to when I was about 10 years old walking around with my first rifle a Winchester model 61 that had a long barrel and it shot great then as it does today. I also have a Savage Classic 93 with a 24" barrel and my CZ Trainer and 452 Lux with long barrels and most of my rifles today are magnums that is all I buy. When CZ made the 452 American rifles with a 22" barrel that was ok but when they started with the 455 and the 20.5" barrels that just turned me off. Today that CZ has woken up and offers a +24" barrel American in 22mag and 17 hmr along with a 457 Lux in both those calibers. My original game plan was to buy 4 rifles: two American and two Lux models one in each magnum caliber.

I am tall and have long arms and to walk around with a 10/22 length magnum rifle for hunting make me feel even more like a giant...I have 4x 10/22s for my daughters and I can't stand to hold them let alone hunt with them. Give me a long barrel rifle with better balance and better sight picture if I want to use iron sights...and the noise factor is a added bonus with longer barrels.

For you guys that like short barrels more power to you...the great thing about CZ is you can buy the 455 series or the 457 and change the barrel to what ever you like even a custom barrel if that makes you happy.

Velocity.

If you look at Ballistics by the Inch ( http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/22mag.html ) for the .22WMR, when BBTI used their chopped test barrel, they didn't go any longer than 19" but for about half the loads, velocity started to fall off between 18" and 19".

However, in their real world tests, using actual rifles, half or more showed modest to significant increases in velocity going from a 21" barrel to a 23" barrel.
