Some Lithgow 101 groups

Federal Ultramatch with the Lithgow 101. All shot at 50 yards.

[IMG][/IMG]

The more I shoot this rifle, the better it seems to do. The box of ammo was one a buddy gave me to try out at the range yesterday. The target was part of a larger sheet, but I shot the other targets on the page with a Tikka T1x, and I thought that it might be confusing. But at that risk, here is how the Tikka is shooting against the Lithgow. Rock BR front rest, Protecktor rear bag with nylon bunny ears. Eley Contact, Club and Target . . . still trying to figure out what's what.

These rifles are starting to show what they are made of. I find the Lithgow 101 showing a LOT of promise. The only downside is that the trigger adjustments aren't extensive. A CZ is certainly easier to work on. I have the lighter spring in the Lithgow that is available on eBay. It helped a bit, but not that much. Having said that, I have not yet tried going as low as I dare. It is currently set at around 1.5 lbs.

I also have the titanium bolt cap on there. It will (as reported) "jingle" a bit on cycling. I folded a piece of masking tape over on itself and punched a hole in it with a hole-punch. It makes a kind of paper washer, which I have seated under the bolt cap to quiet things down a bit. Works well, but I am concerned it could get gummy with time. Still, I am enjoying the Lithgow immensely.

Get yourself a small rubber washer to snug up against, should stop all it's issues, the um22 is not being made anymore I believe, might need to find something else to shoot, I believe there's an assuie on here, find out what theirs like to shoot and go from there, or buy one of every thing and go from there

Bob: is the missing word "the action"?

Just got my Lithgow LA101 .....

You guys obviously know the rifle. So far, mine is all stock, I will tune up the trigger all I can soon. Need to mount some glass and give her a test drive this weekend. I'll follow up with some target pics of groups at 50 and 100. I have about 15 brands of ammo to try see what she likes for a steady diet.

Those are really nice looking rifles. Someday I may have one.

flangster, how do the two actions compare as far as smoothness goes?

I'll have to compare them today for smoothness. The Tikka cycles a bit faster because of the shorter bolt throw.

I've been shooting the LA101 almost exclusively for the last two weeks. (I shoot every day.) It was shooting well with CCI Standard, then last week I did some ammo testing. There was some wind, but not enough for the groups to look this bad. I was very disappointed:

I decided I was taking things too seriously, so I just went to shooting at 50 yards with Wolf, which was just the ammo I left on my indoor/outdoor bench after that day of testing.

After a box of just Wolf Match Target thru the gun, magic happened. She settled way down. These are at 50:

My thumb is coving a single flier in two of those photos. Overall, this was probably around the 500-600 total round count.

Yet even now, the gun seems unbelievably picky about jumping around different ammo. Even moving from Wolf Match Target to Wolf Match Extra, the groups blow way out for 15-20 shots. I've heard about different lubes, yada yada yada, but never seen it in person like this.

This morning it shot two 3/4-inch groups at 100. If you've seen the 22Plinkster video of him shooting at 100, that's what it looked like in my scope. I'm very pleased. It's only the second time I've shot it at 100. At 200, I'm guessing I shot 3 to 5 inches at 200. (I'm looking in the scope. Didn't walk down to measure.)

Right now she's stock, but I have the trigger springs here, which I'll put in next week. I'm shooting it in an outlaw NRL22 match tomorrow and don't want to get screwing with her before that.

Wonder why she settled in all of a sudden with the Wolf ammo? Do you run a patch down the barrel after you change ammo brands?
Good luck tomorrow at your match.
I'm hoping to get to the range tomorrow, but if not, next week for sure …. several times.

I did two pulls of the bore snake.

The shoot today was very cool. I did get the feeling that my groups weren't holding up at the 140 yard steel, and beyond, but didn't shoot enough to really know for sure.

hey thnkz for the heads up on the titanium bolt cap ringing , I am just installing one . I will put a washer under the cap . I also installed the lighter trigger spring (600 gr / 1.5 lbs) but I want to lower it to 400 gr/ 1lb or less . I have found that my 101 eats / shoots most ammo well , not tried all brands yet but there must be one brand it likes.. I have a Bushnell Elite 2.5 - 16 x 44 that is quite fine to 75 mtrs but for longer range a 20 power would be nice. ............... skwerl
