I know we all have a vast collection of .22's, but how many are set up and dedicated to just hunt squirrels? What make, scope, etc. I see some great ones on here, and just interested if you use just one or have several. Mine are, CZ 452, 3x9 Nikon. Ruger 77/22, 4x12 Nikon, Ruger 10-22 sporter, 1.75x4 Bushnell, and Marlin 39a, 4x weaver.

I have multiple but tend to like my Remington 581 builds. I also have Volquartsen Summit, Marlin 56, Cooper 57m, Mossberg 142A. Several of these are in 17hm2. For scopes I prefer variables with 4-6 power minimum and at least 14x to 24x top end. Long shots I like to be able to see their eye, doesn't mean I will hit them there though. Lol

I have a CZ 452 16" threaded with a Weaver V16, duplex reticle. Sighted in at 35 yards with Eley SSHP. I have been using this set up for a few years. I set up a 452 scout with a Weaver RV7. Also sighted in at 35yrds with Eley SSHP. I have not been out with this gun yet, It was my attempt to create a super light/accurate squirrel gun. I increased the length of pull about an inch by tracing and cutting out a cheap flip flop and reattaching the butt plate with longer screws. Got this idea from another RFC member. Not super pretty but it seems to work.

I have a number of rimfire rifles for ground squirrel but I have to say my 77/17 in HM2 is my "favorite". With a factory 20 inch barrel it handles better than the 24 inch barreled 77/xx rifles. With the mach 2 I have never felt I missed due to the rifle. rc

I am fortunate to have or used to have had many world class squirrel rifles. My go to is an Anshutz 1712 FWT with a Leupold 6.5-20 EFR. It shoots nearly as well as many bench guns, handles well in the field and the fiberglass McMillan stock is extremely durable. In my opinion, this combination represents the gold standard in squirrel hunting guns.

True, on beautiful days, I might take out something prettier just for fun. But I don't do it very often.

Squirrel Rifles

I have a number of rimfires that are primarily for squirrels. I like 4-12x of 4-16x optics on them but a few have 6-24x optics which are really too much to reliably track a erratic grey thru the trees. Some are 17's and most are 22's. I won't list them all but a few of my go to's are:

CZ452 American with Hawke 4-16x scope in 22lr - light & accurate.
Sav MkII laminate in 17 Mach2 with Zeiss 3-12x optic - long range perfect.
Winchester mod 67 iron sights single shot. My handicap gun.
Sav 93R in 17hmr with BSA 4-12x scope. Another very effective option.
Sav Bmag in 17wsm with BSA 6-24x mil-dot. Really a varmit rifle but sometimes use on squacks too. Great rifle.
Anschutz modl 1451 light and accurate. But the CZ has almost replaced this 22.
Benjamin 22 PCP air rifle. Quiet 4-12x scope. Very accurate.

If I had to pick one, it would be my latest addition to the vault:

Henry Small Game Carbine 22 LR, skinner peep sight.

Next would probably be my Marlin 60 I got for my 12th birthday, now sporting a Nikon Rimfire II 3-9x40.

Then, maybe Buckmark PLus UDX with Vortex Venom. Or, Ruger Single Ten.

I have a really nice 10/22T that has been significantly upgraded, shoots sub MOA to 100 yards, but on the heavy side (almost 9#) for carrying through the woods.

ive got 2, one is a stainless marlin 917, bull barrel and 4x12 scope. This is the gun i take when im camping or hunting on the road....I dont have much in it so i wouldnt cry as hard if i got broken into.

My favorite is a magnum research 1017, 6x20 bushnell scope.......super lite, very accurate.

I own two..

Savage Mark II GXP with Bushnell 4-12-40 AO scope. Its a non accu trigger so it doesn't see much love. I mainly use a Savage Mark II FV with Bushnell Rimfire 3-12-40 SF with a 150yard target turret on top. Both guns shoot CCI Standard Velocity very well. Farthest shot with the FV on a grey squirrel in January was a hair over 50yards. I am going to do a trigger job on the GXP and probably turn that into the dedicated squirrel gun because of the weight.

I don't have any .22's dedicated for squirrels. I just grab one, some ammo, and go with it.

Both the CZ 452 UL and the Rem 597 are sighted in @ 20 yds., the distance to the apple placed out for the rabbits that eat ornamental bushes in the winter and the same distance to the bird feeder for the limb chickens that scatter the sunflower seeds everywhere in the fall and winter and cut down my green apples and leave em lay. shick shick! WAR!!
