I purchased my 1st AP so I could shoot/practice indoors at home. Got a Daisy 747. It is nice and I like it.
Then, after reading some threads, I found a used Izzy46. I added a Burris FF3, and dremeled the grips to perfection.
All was fine until, someone posted pics and an ad for a FWB 103 with Rink grips. I shoot it with it's iron sights, it is a bit lighter and better balanced than the Izzy. Trigger might be a bit better, although I am probably not experienced enough to really tell. The grips fit me better than the ones I did on the Izzy, but then the Izzy was my 1st attempt. The 103 was also a bit more expensive than the Izzy.
Thank you for the information. I am going to have to start watching the used ads and keep my eyes open for the models you mentioned. Just want something I can shoot in the shop when it is too cold to shoot outside so I can keep my skills up
I, too, have the IZH and a Feinwerkbau, although mine is a 65. If you can find yourself a FWB, you won't regret it. The piston has rings, just like a car engine. Longevity is estimated to be in the millions of shots. Just the occasional seal replacement and you'll have several lifetimes worth of fun.
A set of Izzys. The original IZH 46 is on the bottom and the larger air chambered 46M is on top. Until Russian sanctions are lifted, your best bet is to keep checking online auction sites, GunBroker etc. When they, IZH 46, were first imported years ago these were a screaming deal.
Thanks!!! I am guessing it maybe a while before Russian sanctions get lifted considering the recent events..... UGH! Oh well I will keep an eye open for listing on Gunbroker and such.
I just pulled my IZH 46M out of the safe to shoot it as winter is long and I didn't feel like going out. I guess sanctions on Russia goes both ways. I'm glad I got mine a few years ago, even though the price had skyrocketed while I looked for someone to do the transfer in Michigan.

Bought one of these, several years ago due to my father wanting his FWB65 back, stowed it in the big boy room and forgot about it untill I found this tread.
Have in the meantime inherited the FWB, without ever shooting the Izh.
Should probably re-establish the 10 meter range in the basement, and wring out the much neglected air guns, as I have a non fired by me FWB300S as well, when I come to think about it.
This is an interesting old thread about the Baikal IZH 46. I bought one a few years ago and probably put less than 100 pellets through it (looking at how many pellets are still left in the tin I bought with it). I really need to get it out and shoot it more.
Mine says it is a model MP-46M. I believe it is the same as the IZH 46M, is that correct?
Also, what is the approx value of these guns now? I looked on Gun Broker for both "current" and "completed" auctions and didn't find anything.

Flash,
You may have provided me with an excuse to visit Oslo again... 2 FWBs AND an Izhmash? Sign me up!!
I had a IZH 46 and sold it. Im sorry I did. I have been looking at the FAS6004. Im wanting. one of the regular grip models. I would like to shoot it with right or left hand. Im trying to improve my weak and trigger pull. I shoot USPSA and some classifers require weekhand shooting.
In all fairness I think the IZH wins on sight radius and trigger. Im still trying to justify enough gun money to buy the 6004
From appearances, the 6004 is made to train for ISSF standard pistol and/or centre fire pistol events. The 6004 has the layout of an ISSF standard pistol. The 46 is meant for the ISSF 10m air pistol match (as fired at the Olympics). Both guns are not really meant for the same type of shooting. If you go to the Olympics you will see guns that have the same layout as the 46. If you are after pinpoint accuracy in a 10m deliberate fire match, the 46 or 46m is for you. If you are practicing to get that first shot off properly for a standard pistol match, or centre fire match (where you begin with the gun pointed at a considerable angle below the target), the 6004 is the one you want.
I purchased my izh46 back in 01" for $203.00 and thought it was a pretty stiff price for something from Russia. Three years later I purchased an izh46M for $237.00 and thought I really paid thru the nose. Having both and shooting both regularly, I kind of developed a preference for the "standard" Izh46. Don't get me wrong; the 46M is a real rocket compared to the standard 46; but that extra 60-80fps comes at a price of a slight muzzle "flip" that the old standard 46 does not have.
Recently, I bought a FAS 6004 and am looking forward to its arrival. Hope it performs as well as the Rusky Wunderkind. Honestly; airguns are the greatest thing in the world during the winter months. If you develope good follow thru habits, it can only enhance your pistol capability during the warm summer months with the rimfires...............
