Hi Guys - I'm brand new to Rimfire Central. I'm trying to get information on Winchester Model 57 chambered in 22 short that I own. I'm sorry to butt in but could someone send me in the right direction? Thanks.
Steve

You are going to get a lot of response to your questions. The model 57 is a target model with a folding rear sight in addition to rear peeps. The 57 and 56 were serial #rd together and both produced a limited number of them chambered in .22 short. They are very desirable and sought after. One thing to check is to see if the chamber has been reamed to accept long rifles. an easy test is take a long rifle and see if it will chamber without force.

Model 57s and 56s have magazines with top follower marked with the caliber long rifle or short. These are very hard to find and bring good money. However, the standard 5 and 10 shot magazines made for the 52, 69 and 75 work just as well. I have a well used 56 .22 short with the original magazine and unmolested chamber and a decent 57 in long rifle. Here's a picture.
