Major 290 Issues..MANY....H E L P ..

Well everything went wrong with my like new 290. First off; The bullets would not load into the chamber all the way when loading the first round. Most of them the bullets were dented or bent from the casing.

The bolt carrier for some reason was not going forward all the way. I took this gun apart over two dozen times. It would maybe shoot every now and then. And when it did the spent casing would not eject.

Then the safety and trigger was acting up too. While unloaded I would pull the bolt handle to test the action, let it go, and about a second or two later the hammer would release without me pulling the trigger. I will NOT attempt to shoot this gun
until I can get it working right. It is VERY unsafe now.

This all happened today. This gun was shooting like new. I think this gun
is haunted....)-:

UPDATE: Now when I pull the charging handle the hammer does not stay in the loaded position. What
happened to my gun..!!??

How dirty was the internals? It sounds like gun oil that has gummed up.

The 290 is a firearm of the WD-40 era.

Try any of the spray/foam type cleaners to get into areas you can not. Best if you have a compressor to blow it out. I fact I think anyone who cleans a lot of guns should have a compressor, doesn't have to be big but they sure do help. Anyway, your symptoms sure sound like a dirty action.

My gun has been broken down. Sold the stock set and the inner and outer mag tube. Depression but it had to go. This gun was haunted. Fired three rounds within two minutes WITH the safety on at the range. Done deal. Very DANGEROUS rifle....

My last reply. I will NEVER but another Winchester 290 or 190. They are junk and dangerous guns. Cast metal receivers. And just over-all POS. My 290 I bought that was like new condition started to shoot on its own the last time I took it to the range like it was haunted. I cut it up piece by piece; and threw it away.

Thank you all for your advice and help here...!..
