Or, it could just be a replica stock for an importable rifle. I don't think it's time to call "BS" just yet...
i'd rather trust my fellow hobby members to be able to do the right thing by themselves, and i dont think too many are silly enough to put up dodgy pics
i've looked at getting into the export side of stuff for a couple of years now but its beyond me but i have made some good contacts and they dont even understand it all
It very well could be a replica and I hope it is but I'm not sure what the laws are pertaining to the Russia Agreement On Firearms And Ammunition agreement since the SV-99 stock is so unique.
It's a fine line and the Feds aren't known to let the simple things slide that often.
I'm with everyone else in wanting an SV-99 stock (or two) but the ATF doesn't always look at our hobby as we do. We are the "peasants" and they are in control.
There aren't usually any restrictions of stocks but then again, not many stocks are connected to the Russia Agreement On Firearms And Ammunition agreement and they consider the SV-99 stock a "part" so a Form 6 would have to be approved.
If the ATF think the stocks are the true SV-99 stocks instead of replicas they'd want to know why he didn't fill out a From 6 and then he'll need to show proof they are Replicas. For some reason I think the Feds would arrest first and ask questions later if it came to this. Who knows what type of charges they can bring up on him? They pretty much have a whole slew of them to pick and choose from.
I agree that it's totally stupid to ban a WOODEN STOCK when we are bringing in thousands of centerfire rifles that many see as Evil.
So he needs to let everyone know that it's not a 100% Russian stock as he posted and inform everyone that it's a Replica stock from somewhere other than Russia to cover his butt and ours.
I would be ELATED with a Replica SV-99 stock but he needs to know that the Feds don't play around. I've seen it first hand and it wasn't pretty for the gents.

Good luck with getting that stock... but if i was you, i wouldn’t hold my breath. I while back i was talking to a Australian importer that deals with just Russian firearms, it was my understanding that Russian law will not let military firearms be exported to the general public.
Also i like to note that jack has made a interesting point about import loop holes and i think these loop holes will be your only chance to obtain this particular rifle or parts of.
I can’t see other than from a collector point of view why you would need such a rifle when you can purchase a Izhmash Biathlon rifle and be happy that the rifle you own has much the same action because mostly apart from that the rest is just cosmetic.
An alternative idea to importing would be to purchase the drawings of the stock and its associated hardware from the manufacturer and find someone here to produce them. I would be willing to throw some money in on a "group buy" kind of deal to purchase the manufacturing deawings. You could also try and get some good photos of the stock and attachment mechanism and have some solid models and drawings made up. I would gladly donate some of my time and my SolidWorks skills to such a project in exchange for one of the stocks.

What is needed is a wire-frame model that can be used as a basis for computer numerical control machining.
Atlmike ... does your firm have the capability of reverse engineering a model - CMM digital modeling of a prototype?

Good luck in making connections or contacts with the Russians.
This was/is us_dragunov's forte.
At the moment, it appears he has pulled-the-plug on the project.

I can export a SolidWorks model as an IGES or STEP file that can be fed to most modern CNC equipment. I've never done any work for a stock manufacturer, but I bet the equipment they use would utilize one or more of the exportable file formats from SolidWorks. To do it, I will have to make a SolidWorks model of the stock. I would need a BB stock to take some dimensions from, and I could take measurements from the pictures that have been posted here and make a SolidWorks model that should be extremely close to the real thing.
If someone could line up a stock maker to do the actual manufacturing, I'd be happy to create the models in my spare time in exchange for one of the stocks.

How is the project going along to make your replica SV-99?
I think i have just stumbled across the rifle that was the inspiration for the SV-99 project. I what i know about the SV-99 was that it was a project commissioned after seeing how active the Chechens used the humble .22LR hunting rifle as CQ sniper rifle in urban areas. Looking at the features that the SV-99 prototype boasted, these two rifles have a lot in common.
rifle chambered in .22LR
a detachable stock that can be change with a pistol grip configuration
ammunition storage built into the rifle it self
also cheek rest for precision shooting
It looks like it was a TOZ 8M looking the action, barrel and the plate on the end of the “custom made” detachable stock.

After recently returning from a fantastic trip to Russia.....this project should be progressing through several of the major phases on the build fairly soon. I got to play with both of the current versions of the SV-99 as well as the "still experimental" polymer stocked one....and while I can understand for durability and weather resistance the plastic....the wood versions just felt perfect and very solid and stable and in my opinion look a hell of a lot better.

How about posting some photos of your trip?
I'd love to see ... what you saw.
