I will be having a look at the .308 Baikal on Friday that i ordered, i put down the order after seeing one with its twisted barrel (only costing $370 AU ). Iíll take it home in two weeks (time to take for my permit to acquire to process). i was just wondering if anyone has one and what are they like? Pics and reports on how well they shoot will be nice. (i was told that they are very selective on what ammo they like)

There was one for sale here at RFC Classifieds a couple of months ago for $200 or so, iirc. Missing the rear sight assembly, but otherwise intact. I was tempted, but my .308 cup runneth over.

Just had a look at the rifle the other day (still have to wait for two weeks for the paper work) the wood was a very dark brown that surprised me because the other Baikal had a blond stock. Anybody know what type of wood they use?

If this is the rifle it says it's walnut.

Well that’s the rifle, but my stock is smooth not like the one on that site. On the Baikal site (http://imzcorp.com/en/company/34.html) it says that the stock comes in walnut, beech and birch.
Out of those woods what would be a dark brown.
Cheers,

Any of them could be stained dark! I've only seen one and it was dark wood and all the pictures I've seen were dark.

Hi all, i have been looking around on some Russian and it looks like the stock that i have is made from Birch. Also for you guys over in the states the Spartans come with a walnut stock with a recoil pad.
Here is the site that helped me come to the conclusions above. (http://au.babelfish.yahoo.com/transl...u&fr=yfp-t-501)
