I have seen mirokus in this country. I think what you are seeing is military bring backs from someone stationed in Japan when it was easier to buy them direct and send home.

I talked to the importer of this rifle asking where it was sourced. I was told it came from Switzerland. Not sure what to make of that, but interesting.

The contract browning use to have with the overseas manufacturers was they could sell it under there name in any country that Browning was not sold in.

Just looked at our new BL-22 recently purchased and the barrel says "Browning Arms Company Morgan, Utah Made in Japan/Miroku".
I deleted the photos of the SA-22 we sold to a member here after the sale, but the barrel was stamped the same exact thing.
Look under the trigger guard. Both of ours has (BL-22) had (SA-22) the Browning deer antler insignia inlaid in some gold colored paint.

No browning deer antler design on the bottom of the trigger guard, just a small area of scroll type engraving. On the right side of the barrel is a two line stamping which reads:
Caliber .22 Long Rifle
Browning Patents
I have removed the fore arm, no marks or proofs.

I've never heard of the Miroku only marked Sa-22s, but as to comments regarding patents, I suspect the patents on the rifle long ago expired. Consequently Miroku and for that matter Norinco are probably free to manufacture them whether Browning likes it or not. The relationship with Browning is probably more of a marketing agreement whereby Miroku agrees that Browning has exclusive rights to sell the Miroku made rifles under its name in the USA and whatever other markets Browning has a strong distribution network.
