Is it actually steel? Touch it with a magnet.

Get a blued steel replacement?
The aluminum 'blacking' Ive tried is so-so, that leaves something like Duracoat? that you can bake on. Meanwhile, touch it with a black magic marker.

You can buy a steel one direct from Ruger, one of our members bought two a few months back. You will need to call them to order it, it's not on the website. Brownell's or Midway might have it as well.
Measure the barrel length and tube length, and have the serial number handy.
My 1964 is aluminum and has a lot of holster wear, maybe I'll replace it one of these days.
