New to the 22 wmr having just acquired my first, deciding what ammo to try first. Appreciate that every rimfire is a law unto itself. But ....
Is there a 22 wmr round that stands out has generally being accurate ?
Good morning D.
I tried most of the 22wmr available at 200 yards.
Transonic shift isn't a problem, poorly assembled cartridges are.
Variations in seating depth and angle, primer/powder caused mv spread,
irregular brass dimensions all contribute to trajectory spread at extended range.
Those differences in cartridge dimensions mean there are no tight 22wmr chambers being cut.
The rifle makers have to cut the chambers to fit the production tolerances accepted by the ammo companies.
Sloppy chamber fit means problems with producing consistent trajectories.
I use the 22wmr for center of critter out to about 75 yards.
I recently picked up 100 rounds of CCI 40 grain fmj Target. I have not had a chance to try it yet.
So far Hornady 30 grain works best in my RAR while Winchester 40 grain works best in my H&R Handirifle.
I'm waiting for someone to but and test a Voodoo in .22 mag and see if a better rifle can make the .22 mag a better shooter, my ruger and CZ both will shoot 5/8" @ 50 yrds and 1 1/4" at 100 yrds with the ammo they like.
Another vote Winchester 40gr jhp. I have many rds put up. I can still find it locally for 9.99 a box. I did run across a carton of fiocchi 40gr jhp for 90.00 . I bought it just to try.:snipersmi
The CCI 22 WMR Target looks promising. I just ran 10 rounds while sighting in a new scope with several brands and weights. The Target came inside 3/4" at 50 yards using an H&R single shot with a 4x scope. The 30 Hornady V max was about the same but 2" higher. I dont have enough to do an extended test. I chanced on 2 boxes at Walmart and that was all they had.
I believe the target description is on the label of the 40 grain tmj maxi-mag.
Not a "new" type of CCI 22wmr. Simply a label to increase sales.
Don't actually use many cartridges hunting, maybe a couple at a time,
but at the range, 50 per target adds up quick.
