New to the 22 wmr having just acquired my first, deciding what ammo to try first. Appreciate that every rimfire is a law unto itself. But ....
Is there a 22 wmr round that stands out has generally being accurate ?
WW 40 gr hp has been my standby for over 50 yrs, decent accuracy and good terminal performance. Some of the lighter bullets are slightly more accurate but performance on larger animals such as coyotes is sometimes lacking.

Well that is a hard question but I would say winchester 40 gr hollow point silver box , Winchester 34 gr hollow points and Federal 50 gr hollow points. However, most of the ammo I have shot has been pretty good . I guess my least favorite has been CCI but for no good reason. Get your gun and see what it likes .
For killing vermin as large as yotes the Federal 50 grain has been the most reliable.
I'm using a BRNO ZKM-611 AUTO and a CZ-452 Varmint bolt action.
You asked which was the most accurate......so based on that criteria I have found the Hornady V-Max and Remington stuff to be the most accurate. But for some reason, my CZ shoots CCI about as well.
Actually, he said "Most consistently accurate 22 wmr ammunition". I answered based on his choice of "consistently." Otherwise, I agree with you on the Rem Accu-tip. I can't find it though and am unwilling to pay that price. Most of the 40 gr. loads (Armscor, Fiocchi, etc.) shoot to the same POA in my rifles. The 30 gr. V-Max are always high and right by 2" at 100 yards.
General consensus (even on this forum if you use the search function) is that the Hornady V-Max and Remington Accu-Tip are the most accurate.
They also tend to be the most expensive, with the Accu-Tip coming in at $25 per 50 rounds the most expensive. Unfortunately in my gun it is also slightly more accurate than the Hornady.
Right. In two previous .22 mags (one a rebarreled Kimber 82 and one an Anschutz 1720), the 33-gr. Remington Accutip-V has been the most accurate for me. However, in a more-recent Anschutz 1720, the Hornady 30-gr. VMax has been best, producing close to 1 MOA average 5-shot groups at 100 yards.
Over the years winchester super x 40gr HP has been good. The latest and most accurate for me is Hornady Vmax 30gr polymer tip. And it curious the near identical CCI is not quite as good. I can eek out 1 moa which is excellent for hunting and 22mag is for hunting, so.....
Another vote for the Hornady 30 gr Vmax, with the Remington Accutips a close second. Average size for 5 shot groups with both is right at 1" @100 yards, but since the Hornady ammo is so much cheaper, it wins. In third at about 1.25"is the 45 gr Hornady Critical Defense and is my choice if the target has sharp teeth.
Nothing else I've shot (3 CCI loads and 1 Armscor) has averaged under 1.5", and the Winchester silver box was absolutely horrible, barely made 3" and lots of split cases.
Heh. I think we'll still be in the "Whichever 22WMR you can manage to get ahold of..." stage for awhile longer yet.
Give it another few months of increasing availability before you get your hopes up on actually finding enough of any one load to worry about standardizing on it...
For mine the CCI TNT Green has been consistently the most accurate. It's not what I would use for anything larger than squirrels or a fox, but it has always been the most accurate for me.
To be totally honest, I have not given the Vmax types a fair shot either. But popping ground squirrels at 125yds has been my litmus test.
To the original poster, I've had consistent, excellent results with the 45 gr. Hornady FTX Self Defense round, out of my rifles that like it. Also the 40 gr. Speer Gold Dot round; again, with the rifles that like it. Neither of these are a budget round, but the price quoted from CTD above are just laughable, and one reason they'll never see the first dime from me.
you did not mention availability, so I will say that old RWS 40grain hollow point [green box] is by far the best .22 mag ammo ever produced that I have ever shot.

I went to the range today and tested 22 mag ammo in my Ruger 77R Target gray and the 30 grain Hornady V max beat everything else substantially. It dotted off a 1/2" hole at 100. The CCI ,hp and TNT, and Winchester 40 gr HP all shot around 1" . I was impressed with the results but like other posters have said different POI than the 40 grain stuff. My Ruger shoots them 2" high and left. So if I used that round regularly I would sight it in for that and not use anything else. I also shot some S&B and PMC Predator --PMC shot awful out of that rifle 4-5" at 100. The Fioncchi shot to the same impact area as the WW and CCI. The classic CCI and the TNT CCI shot slightly different POI but only by 1/2".
Fun day of ammo testing, finally not so blazing hot in south Texas. :bthumb:
My CZ 452 Lux shoots the Hornady 30 grain V-Max at about 1 MOA or better out beyond 100 yards. It shoots other stuff that I've tried such as a couple of Winchester 40 grain rounds and CCI 40 grain HP at about 2 MOA. I've never tried the Remington Accu-Tip.
My favorite is...Remington 33gr Accutip-V Premier ammo....very accurate in my Savage 93 in 22 mag. Hard to find,I only have 3 boxes of this stuff.....A close 2nd is the Hornady Varmint Express ammo in 30 gr V Max..
It's all about testing what you can get your hands on.
I have a case of CCI 40gr HP that won't shoot better than 3moa in any of my rifles. I've also had similar poor results with S&B SB and TMJ.
I've had excellent results with S&B JHP, Hornady 30gr v-max and Armscor USA in my old Marlin 783. They all shoot 1 moa in that gun.
I just aquired a new brick of Federal 50gr, but I haven't tested it yet. Hoping it shoots well in my 9422M because that round is the standard for shooting Rams in the Cowboy Lever Action matches we shoot.
That's amazing for any magnum rifle! I love my old 1974 783. I picked it up last year for $160, and it's excellent condition. I don't think it was hardly ever used. One of the best bangs for the buck I've gotten on any gun deal. The stock trigger was pretty stiff, but I installed a light trigger spring and that cut the groups in half. I was super pumped when it shot moa off my truck's tail gate, with sand bags. It shoots well enough to justify spending some money on a good scope to replace the cheap $30 scope I have on it.
I got mine from a buddy for $80. It has never had any malfunctions. I like older guns. It has an older Bushnell 3-9×40 mounted in Redfield see thru dovetail rings. They have a large clamp screw right at the bottom and don't move at all. I also have an '03 83ts that I need to set up.
I have a savage model 93 that i have tried at least 15 different types of ammo. The most accurate by far is CCI Maxi Mag TNT 30 gr. Under ideal conditions they average around 1/4 inch at 50 yds.

I have the same model 93 in a left hand model...I've tested various 22 mag Ammo... the Armscor USA Ammo with the 40 gr jacketed hollow point has been very accurate at 60 yd range ...usually holding groups around the size of nickel or less... That's minute of chipmunk at 60/70 yds.....Other 22 mags I have are Marlin 882 and 883 models...those rifles like 40 gr ammunition from several companies..such as CCI...Armscor..Aquila..Winchester..
