Hi y'all i would like to know if the rifling on your threaded barrel comes to the end or are they bored back to the barrel proper. The reason i ask this is because when you reduce a barrel by that much the tightest spot is not at the muzzle but perhaps 12 mm back creating a yawing of the bullet hence disrupting accuracy.Scott.
IMHO yes the barrel will be a larger diameter under the muzzle threads
The problem as I see it is that to get enough room around the bullet .400 there is no metal left.
Next time I turn out a threaded barrel I will go .625 or .750 muzzle threads just to have the room to bore and crown it
I definitely saw a change at the muzzle threads in the bore of a anshultz barrel i set up on my rprr
The bore does expand from reducing the diameter of the OD like you are thinking. Counter boring to the shoulder of the threads or just back of it is a good idea and works well, the problem is just getting a good crown that deep in there at such a small diameter. It can and has been done fine with as small of a counter bore as 0.250" without disturbing the bullet on exit but it is hard to execute a quality crown.
As a practical matter I doubt it affects accuracy.
I have had many done, and if there's a difference you would need $20 ammo and a BR rig and windless range to notice or measure it.
Counterpoint, when I have a muzzle threaded, I slug it and often find a choke point further down. I think this is more significant than worrying about muzzle bore expansion as a result of threading.
Furthermore, every rig I've had threaded shoots smaller groups with a suppressor...Tom
