This hm2 rig I have made some spectacular long range head shots today. Some shots off side of tree and some using my shooting stick I made. Love this baby. Fox squirrel just can’t outsmart this rig.
Bagged 4 this morning. They weren’t stirring very well. Nice calm morning too. We have more weather like this coming maybe this is why they didn’t stir much.

Bagged 3 this morning on deer scouting mission. Muzzleloader deer season opens tomorrow.
One of the greys was a long ways off when I touched the trigger.
Had a nice buck (scored roughly 120)come within 20 ft of me while watching this oak tree for squirrels. Doe in heat came close and so did this buck.

I hope that buck shows for you tomorrow. Funny thing about deer they seem to know when you are hunting squirrels vs them. I'm planning to be out tomorrow near Rogersville. Maybe you can scare him my way. Good luck tomorrow!
It is an amazing cartridge for squirrel hunting.
Why.
Few reasons
Flatter trajectory vs 22 lr.
Smaller diameter bullet means less chance of hitting limbs etc.
Faster bullet, means shooting skill can be worse, or more slop allowed with trigger pull, holding gun.
Faster bullet increases chances of a hit on a squirrel if they move a tad last second vs 22 lr.
Every ounce of additional speed helps in this department. And I have noticed killing more squirrels that move at last second vs 22 lr.
Ammo for this caliber/cartridge easier to acquire vs 22 long rifle (currently).
My go to squirrel gun now.
Love it.
Yes, amazing! To think that there is someone else that had the forethought at about 8 years of age to record their squirrel kills. AT AGE NINE, TEN ELEVEN, ETC: STILL THE FORE THOUGHT TO RECORD EACH KILL. I BET THAT IS A MASSIVE JOURNAL. MOST KIDS NEVER WOULD HAVE THOUGHT AT AGE 8 TO START AND KEEP A JOURNAL! sorry about the caps ain't going back!
It has been digitized. Now it resides on Deep Blue which splits it's processing time between tabulating career squirrel harvests and kicking Garry Kasparov's hiney at chess.
I'm a hunter myself. So killing animals is not the issue. I think I'll just put the op on 'ignore' and call it good. But where does the brain implants figure in?
Bagged 4 this morning after a short muzzleloader deer hunt. Dry as all get out here, record temps expectedly here today (80).

Couple of these squirrels shot at respectable distances.
Grey at 65 and one fox squirrels at around 80 yards.
All noggin hits.
Wore blaze orange hat and vest too.
JUst posted last post and go outside.
Hear squirrel barking across the road.
Grabbed shooting stick (mono).
Was actually 3 squirrels there best I coulda tell.
Shot one at 70 yards. Using my stick this is sorta tough (head shooting) standing in open field near fence row.

A deer scouting mission. Dry here and hot for time of year. Twenty degrees over average temp.
Bagged one.

Sprinkled a little rain. So headed to the woods. Heavy cedar mostly and did wear blaze orange vest and hat.
Bagged 3.
Might havemade my best ever shot in the woods with my rig this afternoon late.

This is a head buster rig I have. I love it.
Tomorrow weather (hunting conditions) looks real promising. Have to make my mind up to deer hunt or squirrel hunt.
Went deer hunting saw 25 deer and not a single buck. Big one in the area somewhere. Got home and this critter crawling around in field across road. Long shot.
Bagged him.

I disagree with article as it relates to the neutering of squirrels.
Male squirrels neuter young males. Not all but some. What else is neutering the squirrels?
This doesn’t happen during mating season. Which is what’s the article talks about.
I have witnessed what was talked about in the article above.
But the article doesn’t cover all squirrel behavior all the time.
A Tom cat will kill young Tom cat kittens not the females. Momma cat will try and hide their babies for this reason. Sorta down the same line as male squirrels being neutered.
Little squirrel hunt after short deer hunt.
Bagged 7. All foxes.
Saw a couple greys but they wouldn’t be still. Small and young.
Love this hm2 rig and Nightforce scope with hit reticle.
Knocked out one of these out of monster oak tee top at 75 yards. He ran a round some and then fell out. Hm2 is potent medicine for fox squirrels. Hunt terminated due to more high wind. Never seen so much high wind.

Btw - all males in pic. 2 of 7 neutered.
Pics of rifle setup below. CZ 455 with lilja varmint taper barrel wrapped in nice camo tape. Rifle has yo Dave trigger kit installed.
I harvested my 13th deer of the archery/muzzleloader/rifle season today.
Tagged out buck wise.
Slipped up and shot the wrong buck.
Monster was there too.
Oh well.
I can still hunt and shoot does (3 a day) and buck with less than 3” horns.
Got a better buck (shown below with bow earlier) than the one I shot with 25.06 at around high noon today.
Ps I count my deer harvest numbers too.
Actually they are recorded on Tn wildlife management site as I check them in. A history file is documented.
So more squirrel hunting now and less deer hunting.
