Hey guys i just picked up my first 52 the other day, it was in the not for sale case with 3" of dust collected on it so i asked about it and the owner said he'd rather see it get used instead of collecting dust so he let it go

it is a 1953 52c action, 20"L 1" dia Douglas bull barrel threaded into the acton 52D chamber, 52D trigger installed and worked on a bit.

it has is a thumbhole stock hand carved from maple pillar & glass bedded, but what i was wondering is the builder bedded the entire barrel channel and it seems to be putting pressure points all down the length of the barrel. seems like that could seriously affect accuracy.
ill post up some pictures in a bit

I would shoot it before I would make any changes. Sounds like an interesting build- wonder why it was just sitting in the case instead of being used since it seems it might have been a custom build for somebody?

Had shot it the day prior to my clubs first small bore match off a led sled, the gun was grouping amazingly but it was not grouping where the crosshairs were at. it was patterning like a 12ga shotgun all around the crosshairs randomly no specific impact spot, But it was grouping wonderfully in those random spots like single hole groups

thanks!

It was hand made by the fellow who did all the wood work for the gun shop i had purchased it from. i probably over paid for it but i like it.

it was a hard tossup between the 52 or an anschutz 1413 with every accessory available at the time but the 52 was cooler imo

Just slugged the barrel and its tight beyond belief consistently the entire way down and chokes even tighter the last 3 inches before the muzzle so that get rid of the worn barrel theory of why it was scattering groups every where.

no carbon ring buildup either. so I'm thinking the barrel bedding making about 6 pressure points of significant upward pressure is what causing it throw rounds like bb's from a shotgun

All that too but I'd re-look at the scope mounts and ring

" . . . patterns like a shotgun . . . "

Action loose in the stock and rattling around ?

+ 1 on the loose / bad scope and / or mounts !

Good luck !

the scope came off my hunter class silhouette cz and has always been spot on. I've always had problems with the millet angle loc rings but i busted out the micrometer last night and got them aligned perfectly then lapped them so there as perfect as i could get them.

guys i sanded out the glass from the barrel channel, just got back from the range and tried more ammo. removing the glass helped a tiny bit but not much its not spraying them around as far as it was.

but get this it supposedly has a 52d chamber cut into the barrel... it seemed loose to be a 52d chamber. i can easily flick rounds into the chamber the whole way in with my finger. so a fellow down the line was shooting cci stingers. i asked the man for one and he gladly gave me round to try. the singer easily went into the camber and the bolt closed with no effort, i extracted the round and there was not even engraving on it from the rifling. so I'm assuming this thing has a really sloppy chamber that isn't to match spec
