"SR22 XTC Trainer" by DavePat

August 2013 Ultimate 10-22 Contest Entry

"SR22 XTC Trainer" by DavePat:

OK - Ill throw my recently completed creation into the ring. This gun was created to compete in CMP tactical small-bore and is also used for NRA XTC high power training. It can EASILY clean an NRA prone small-bore target at 50 yds in the slinged prone position. Ill try and get some target pictures later if it ever stops raining here in Ohio and I dont drown on the way to the range J

Here are the build specs.

Ruger SR-22 chassis
Ruger SR-22 receiver that has been internally machined for smoother bolt operation
Ruger SR-22 custom machined float tube to reduce weight

Kidd 16.5 inch black light weight barrel
Kidd silver scalloped bolt
Kidd 2 stage trigger with straight blade trigger
Kidd bolt buffer
Kidd action bolt kit
Kidd charging handle and guide rod assembly
Kidd take down action screw

Centra 10/50 base rear aperture sight
Centra 3.0 red Combi adjustable rear aperture with 5 filters and polarizer

Finally got a few minutes today to put some shots down range with the rifle.

Here are the particulars.

1. Indoor 25 yd pistol range. Very busy and very noisy

2. Targets are reduced NRA A-27 50 meter targets with just the 9,10, and X ring.

3. Ten shots taken, all in the 10 ring with what looks to be 8 or 9 Xs. Shots are all down the left side of the paper.

4. Used Weaver T-36 scope with 1/8 MOA target dot reticle so I could see the targets better as the range is just too dark to use the aperture sights. Had I used the aperture sights I would have used the same A-27 reduced targets but with all the rings showing

5. All shots were taken in the prone position with sling and shooting coat.

6. Not too shabby for a light weight, semi auto gun, with a 1.6 by 1.5 lb 2 stage trigger, shooting middle grade Eley Target ammo, in a very noisy pistol range if I may say so myself :-)

VQ Walnut/Snake Fluted by augie

August 2013 Ultimate 10-22 Contest Entry

"VQ Custom Walnut/Snake Fluted" by Augie:

I'm an old guy that prefers steel and wood. I have always wanted to replace the 10/22 I had as a kid, that gun was a lot of fun.
Today I came across my ultimate version of the 10/22, it's a Volquartsen Deluxe with a Bastogne Walnut stock, stainless bull barrel with snake fluting, to me the perfect combination of modern and classic lines.
Can't wait to get it out to the range, I'm hoping for excellent accuracy.

100yd 10 shot target I shot this fall using Eley Target. The rifle is very accurate and functions perfectly.

"Addystrong" by Nieman55

November 2013 Ultimate 10-22 Contest Entry

"Addystrong" by Nieman55

Inscribed on the stock of this rifle are the words:

"Sometimes the Smallest Bullet Makes the Biggest Impact"

Here's WHY:

I personally feel that this rifle deserves consideration for Hall of Fame status because of the purpose behind the build and the manner in which it came together. Last summer, Nieman55 built this rifle to lift the spirits of his brother in law who had recently lost his 8 month old daughter Addy to liver failure. Within a week, members from across RFC and the country donated all kinds of custom parts and services to help bring the project to fruitition.
Within a couple of months, Nieman55 was able to build a one-off custom with a color scheme to match Addystrong, the charity started by the parents after the tragic passing of their 8 month old daughter, to help provide college scholarships for Ohio high school students.

Strangers helping strangers for a good cause, with no need or desire for even the slightest recognition.
IMHO, THAT is one of the traits that embodies Indy's vision of RFC and I like to think he's looking down on us with pride when we interact in the manner embodied in Nieman55's thread.

There has been much discussion of late regarding the STORY behind HOW or WHY a rifle was built. The STORY behind this one makes me proud to be a member of RFC.

Respectfully,

DrGunner

"Lilja Barreled 10-22" by MKnarr

July 2013 Ultimate 10-22 Contest Entry

"Lilja Barreled 10-22" by MKnarr

This rifle has the claim to fame of having shot the smallest 5 shot group at 100 yards of any 10-22 in RFC history- to my knowledge. An amazing .319"!!!

The rifle was originally built to be used in the long range silhouette matches (65 to 200 meters). It was shot in the condition you see in the picture. However, I was in competition in the master class against some tough rifles. I ended up in 2005 buying my second 1970 Anschutz 1411. Since then I have competed in 49 long range matches, winning 36 and placing 2nd six times and 3rd six times. The rifle has been used in ARA competition in the under 11 pound class and done well until the competition got tired of getting beat by a 10/22.

The 10/22 bedding sticky:
https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...d.php?t=250931
&
https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...1&postcount=27
It is not necessary to have a second hold down and if properly bedded a pad at the forearm tip is not necessary and can be detrimental to precision. Nor is it necessary to have an aftermarket bolt, firing pin or V block. But you must also understand I have been shooing in competition on and off since 1964 and have bedded a number of different rifles. One of the things I have found is less is often better.

Best Group of July 06 RFC 100 yard BR match
https://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...56&postcount=1
.319" Jim Brossman. Durango, Colorado
Ruger 10/22. Millet 6-25X. SK Standard Plus. Lilja barrel. Kidd [email protected] oz. Caldwell BR front rest.

". . . there wasn't a breath of air this moring so I only had a piece of tape below the target. I have never fired a group this good at 100 yards. and probably won't again, so I would like to enter it in the 100 yard 5 shot group match. Beacuse the group was so small, I fired the extra shot as you requested."

Here is my record with my Lilja barreled 10/22 when I was still using it.

2014 Ultimate 10-22 Third Place:

"NO REGRET" by doclu60:

Rifle Name-----------------------Owner-----------------Builder

"No Regret"----------------------doclu60---------------doclu60

Build Specifications:

Kidd Classic recv'r 10moa with rear tang, threaded by Randy @ CPC
Benchmark barrel blank, slugged, cut, crowned, chambered, finished OD, threaded for above recv'r, and installed by Randy @ CPC. .920od x 19" long.

Kidd 2-stage silver trigger, 3/5oz with flat black blade
DIY T-Rex stock, slightly modified with brass front pillar and three part bedding
DIY stock paint, Cadillac Green Jewel Frost Metallic with 5 coats of clear
Weaver T-36 scope in satin nickle Warne Maxima Med QD rings
Weight- a dainty 10-1/2lbs (with sun shade and caps on the T-36)

This rifle was never built to be a 'looker' or a contest rifle. She turned out the way she did because I wanted to build a very accurate clone BR rifle for shooting our games and to use as a trainer for future endeavors in competitive BR shooting.

It has shot a 149 out of 150 run on 25yd Tacks, placed 4th in the 25yd Ultimate game, posted a respectable score on the 25yd Tack target at 50yds and shot several 24's and many 23's on the 50yd Tack game. None of the latter have been posted because I will only post a clean card at that range.

The rifle has also shot some very good groups at 50yd. Unfortunately not three on the same card. Upgrading my range gear and finding out what the barrel wants maintenance wise has increased it's performance. Spending many hours at the range and increasing my ammo expenditure has increased my performance, bringing it closer to the rifle's potential.

I am truly humbled by the fact that the rifle was not only nominated, a painted stock BR rig, but made the final show in the 'Ultimate' contest. I have been afforded the opportunity to add more photos and commentary about the gun for this thread. I will respectfully decline more photos, as the ones already posted show exactly what the rifle's purpose is......Bench Rest. The single target posted almost shows what the rifle's performance is. There is much more in this gun.

I thank all that were involved in the planning and execution of this build. Many members helped with opinions from their experience or ideas I got from posts of other builds. I also thank those that supported this rifle for what it is, a target gun. Special thanks go to Randy @ CPC for countless time on the phone and his wonderful craftsmanship and the gang at Benchmark barrels who turned out the blank in a very short time, even though they were very backlogged.

With all due respect to our forum......
Respectfully yours,
Scott
