39 A date of birth

The newer 39a are not near as good In my opinion. I do know they were having all sorts of issue. I just hope they have things worked out. In my opinion if you can find a older marlin without the pre safety cross bolt. The one with J. M. Stamped on the barrel are the most sought after.

I have a 39a and the prefix is h followed by 6830, so am I to assume it was built in 1951? The rifle has some pitting on the barrell, would this be better to leave alone, sometimes reblueing reduces value? I oil it often but the rust pitting still keeps on coming back.

Here's an odd one . I just purchased what is marked as a golden 39a . The previous owner inherited it from an uncle . In 95% condition . He said his uncle bought it in the 60s . The serial # starts with a XV . The X is a little off center from the rest of the # . There is no serial #s starting with X according to everything I've seen . If you ignore the X and go with the V , that would put the rifle at 1962 . That date would fit the background story .
Anybody have any thoughts/experience with a serial # with a X or XV prefix ?
