stopping at pawn shops again

Coming back from an overnight hunting at the WMA (didn't see a deer)
I stopped at a couple of pawn shops on the way home.
Is it just me or do others find it a fun past time to stop at them as they travel through small towns?
Anyway, I found these two old 22 revolvers that I had to pick up.
I have never actually seen a 2 1/2 in sentinel R-108 in nickle plate before so when they let me have it for 1/2 asking price, I took it.
I had also never remember seeing a JC Higgins model 88 before and love that it is in 6 in barrel. I think I got a good deal on it .
They have minor blemishes on the barrels but not enough to bother me and they appear to function perfectly. I hope to get to the range today with them.
I find these old 22 revolvers fun to have and shoot and love the fact they hold 9-shots.

Found this 1960's High Standard Double Nine W-104 in my personal "pawn shop"....otherwise known as my son-in-law's gun closet !

And the price was right ! I basically stole it and shoot it every week. Great fun gun to shoot.

I really like the Sentinel. I had one in blue w the same grips. Fun carry gun/backpack gun. I don't know what happened to it. I imagine I traded it for something I thought was better? Couldn't afford to keep them all back then. Very nice.

Can anyone suggest a good inexpensive holster for use when I'm carrying it in the field or when hiking?
I prefer one that rides high enough as to not alarm anyone I might come across on a trail.

Sweet shooter: JC Higgins 88

I got to the range yesterday with both handguns and they are both fun but the JC Higgins 88 has good to be one of my favorite of all handguns.
It not only feels and looks good but it is one very accurate shooter!
At 10 yds, I had to check with my binoculars to ensure I was shooting 3 shots in nearly the same hole.
At 25 yds, i could easily kill a squirrel.
Man, is it one sweet old 22.

Good to here that the trip to the pawn shop was worth it. I need to get to one more often. I have become a big fan of rimfire and I have been around several people that came across some good shooters by just offering on some nice firearms. The JC Higgins does look good too! Congratulations.

JC Higgins is likely a high standard.

You're lucky that pawn shops in your area sell guns. Never find one around here that does. They ship to Gunbroker or similar and get rid of them.

Be careful. Carry with an empty cylinder under the hammer.

The hammer/firing pin rests on a cartridge, so if you plan to carry, keep an empty chamber under the hammer.

Wish the pawn shops are here (Metro Denver) had good price. Although there are lots of them their gun prices are terrible. They all go their computers and don't budge an inch.

Pawn shops, gun stores & on line auctions.

A retail store or pawn shop may want to hold to a set price, out of store policy to discourage customers from offering less. But almost all of them need to turn over inventory to recoup the money they have out and hopefully to make a profit. They sometimes will turn to on line auctions as a way of doing so. You may need to ask them if they ever have guns advertised for bid this way, and if so, what outfit do they use and they name they list under. Might help you. I do know a number of small gun shops that do just that. They do not publicize it in the store. Face to face, cash in hand is most desirable. The on line auction is second best.

Almost all the pawn shops (except title shops) I have gone to (Georgia) all have guns.
I love talking a good deal and have gotten some good ones that way.
Many of the pawn shop people are friendly 'good ol country folks and I always enjoy a chat with them.
If I don't get the price I want after haggling, I walk away...no loss to me.

That is a nice pistol. I would have lifted that one as well. Really nice.
