Woodsman 2nd series grips

I have a new, in the box, never fired 2nd series target.
Mint condition except for the grips. I believe they are injection molded plastic.(late 1951). The left grip is fine but the right has warped about 1/8". Can these grips be heated(maybe with hot water) and be reformed to fit?
Thanks

I don't know but I tried that on an early plastic Marlin trigger guard from about 1950 and it changed the color.

70 year old plastic can be brittle, you can try it but I would just remove / save the grips and find some nice wood grips to use to shoot it.

kenacp,
The simple answer to your question is 'Yes' the warp can be removed without any damage or detection of the corrective procedure. And the plastics age is not of concern. In general the process take about 1/2 hour and does not entail boiling or hot water.
If you would like to learn how to correct the warp, feel free to contact me direct and I will send you photographs of my tried and true procedure. In addition, a brief phone conversation will insure your understanding of the procedure.
Regards,
Tom Platt

I highly recommend you take any counsel Mr. Platt has to offer. He is most knowledgeable about all things Colt Woodsman related. He has been a great resource for me.
